Internet Explorer/Yellow/limewire download

WebKitten
I thought i downloaded the song "yellow" by Cold Play from limewire, and it seems I downloaded a virus.
today I clicked on this file (which actually looked like a data text file) and the Internet Explorer windows started popping up.
I went into the control panel and removed IE (in safe mode), also deleted this file called "Yellow". restarted several times, but IE windows keep popping up, no matter how many times i close them. Do you have an idea what I'm talking about? I just hope i am clear enough. Thx

This had happened with me before, and I just couldn't be more bothered so I simply uninstalled Limewire.
I switched to Ares.

However if you wish to continue using Limewire, visit this page:

It might give a solution to your problem.
Your system has just been infected with spyware.

If you are using the free version of Limewire you are practically guaranteed to get a virus or a few hundred. The pay version is better but still not a 100% winner. Any free downloading service has some pretty big risks. You can help prevent these by getting legit software, having a reliable anti-virus software, and keeping an updated Anti-spyware program running on your computer.

Try running SpyBot to remove the spyware infecting your computer. But do this only after you uninstall Limewire and other such P2P tools.

Next, to prevent future infection by malware downloads from P2P networks, make sure that you are downloading some legit file, use web to confirm from hash values etc., and make sure you dont use P2P engine versions which have both paid / free versions. Look for open source initiatives.

Last, but not the least, try to avoid P2P networks for any copyrighted stuff! Respect copyright laws Smile

Best bet, would to remove Limewire immediately, and then consult a technical profession either in a store or online. I'd prefer online cause it's a lot easier, and you don't have to carry your computer around.

List of virus removal sites:

Two great sites to help you. Best of luck.

I would clear off the computer and fully reinstall Windows...

Then install iTunes, pay for your music, and stop pirating music.

Unless you know what you are doing and use good torrents from reputable sites, you WILL get viruses. Especially through Limewire.
