All right! I was going to post ADOM until I saw it was already on the list. Nice. Anyway, that's one that can be played online anyway, though not in an MMORPG fashion. Think there's a server up somwhere for gamesharing.

Globulation 2 is an interesting RTS (real-time strategy game) that seeks to eliminate micromanagement. In other words, you give your units vague ideas on what to do, and they do it (as opposed to Starcraft, Warcraft III, Age of Empires I&II, etc. where you assign commands to units directly). It's an interesting experiment if nothing else. Beware that there is no [official] single player campaign beyond the tutorials.
