Got my first job!

Da Rossa
Hi peeps! I got my first job. I'm gonna be a telemarketing operator! Razz
I shall begin next week. I've been hired by a company named "Call", which was hired by Caixa, one of the most important Brazilian public banks, and there is where I'm gonna work. I don't know exactly the nature of the occupation, but it's about receiving calls from clients to talk about their accounts.

Does somebody have any experience in this area? Any advice?

About the selection process: there were a couple of ridiculously easy tests, one about MS Office, one dictation with the most common words, a composition with the subject "the importance of team work", a group activity, in which we were asked to create a product to sell to the examiner; a math and portuguese test done in the computer, very EZ (questions like: there is a group composed by 400 people, 120 are men, how many women?)

I learnt in the same day that I passed, and was led to the next phase: deliver the documentation, the worst one.

I'm going to start by having three months of training and then I'll work effectively. The salary suckz, it's about $2.50/hour.

I'm wondering if that's worth. I honestly feel that I can do more than that, but my mom keeps telling me that the experience is worth, since this is my first job (I'm almost 24).

The bigger deal, what discourages me, is that I'm gonna work 6 hrs/day and this could mess up with my studies: I've just started the Law School, heading to second semester and I performed VERY well. I even created my site here @ Frih: http://www.darossa.frih.net/notas, where you can find out that I've put all the class notes, from where my mates studied, and was very productive to me. With the new job, I'm afraid I won't be able to keep doing that. what now?

I had coursed Physics before, for 10 semesters, but didn't finish, I was actually frozen in the course.

Please give me tips Smile

First of all, Congrats for getting job. Best thing i can suggest you is that keep yourself best in communication and paint and present yourself nicely.Have a good knowledge of economics. This would be more then enough for you to progress in your job.
Da Rossa
I'm not sure if we'll be required to know economics, since this is only the most operational part, not account administration, investiments and etc... I wish I were that important Very Happy

Congratulations! I going to have my first too next week, in a consulting company, specialised in computing!

Is this your summer holidays and a summer job? Or do you do things differently in Brazil. When would your lectures be? Doing this telephone thing will be good for you from a people skills point of view. Beauty is you get the training for free and are getting paid for it too. Most of the successful brokers in the world will tell you this is valuable training. The studies are important too. If you could do both, great. But if one has to come at the expense of the other I would say studies first. Just the opportunity to study law must have come at tremendous effort for you, so it is important for you to do well. BUT having said that, in the ideal sense, and having been a student myself, are you sure you will study if you gave up on the job?
martyman123
congrats!
My first job was pizza deliver when i was 16. It was fun time, all i had to do was drive a scooter Smile

Smile I've forgotten you are in the Southern Hemisphere. How do the semesters at your University work? Do you have a break in the middle of the year?
Da Rossa
Yeah I do. I'll have holliday until july 28. It's normally in July the holliday in the middle of the year.

So, once the holiday is over will you still continue with the full time job? By the way, how are you doing so far?
homefun
Congratulations too you for having a new job, I am still looking for a job, hope soon.
leflauntique
working is great but as long as you keep your priorities on your studies, like you said u are only earning $2.50/hr. When you have completed your studies and find a better job you would most probably be earning more than that.

well, yes, I'm supposed to keep the 6h/day rate. So far it's only training, nothing concrete, and too soon to tell you anything. All I know is that the manuals and the nature of the job seem to be BOOOOORING

Some people already told me that, and your testimony counts. Razz

Do you find you have time now to study after a day's training? Can you do both, or are you focussing only on the training for now?

I'm currently on holidays, so I can't tell that. All I know is that I'm very worried about the time management. I won't be able to do a wonderful thing such as http://www.darossa.frih.net/notas if I'm working Sad

Although I do not understand the language the Website really looks well layed out. Must help a lot of your class mates? Pretty impressive. Would be a pity to let go of it. Do you have a choice about the job, or are you under an obligation?
rheanna
Great not another one. Don't be calling me or I'm going to tell you off and hang up on you. Laughing Laughing

Congrats on your new job hope it works out for you.

I'm under the moral obligation to stick with it. My mum is kinda having difficulties and I need to help. Moreover this is my first job, and I'm very late (almost 24).
I DON'T want to let the site go. I need it myself to study properly.
Thanks for the compliment about the layout. One lil question: does the colour scheme please you? Be honest. Smile

I love the font and the colour of the font. That is really effective. The background could perhaps be better in white as that will make for greater contrast and reading. Also nice if the links could be different colours, i.e. the main one can be also brown or rusty brownish orange, then the visited colour a bright yellow or olive green. Best to play with them and see what works best.

Also, perhaps you can get rid of the borders. You will still have some sort of border in your design version, but for the preview and published page they could be gone. I like the heading as it is, but perhaps you can centre the text in the headings so that they match the text under it that has been centred. Smile

If you're talking about this then yes, I do it for my own study and make it available for my friends to study as well.

Right now I'm still in the training phase. It's a bunch of classes/lectures in which the teacher tells us the banking essentials. Veeeeeery boring and I'm not learning satisfactorily. Too mechanical the thing.

I'm still at the course. Quite boring and requires mechanic memory. The phoning/webbing/chatting will come in about 20 days. Exam tomorrow!

Hows You doing?

I also got my first job like a month ago, Im floor staff in a restaurant. One bad thing is, and this is a warning to everyone wanting to work in the UK on a lowly position such as floor staff... be prepared to have to wait to get paid. I signed my contract that said i was gonna get paid weekly. That's total BS. It's been a month, I made about 1000$USD and still havent seen a penny of of, or rather, a pence. I'm supposed to get it tomorrow... It fu*ked me up really good, I was supposed to get a laptop for the cash, and alot of good deals escaped me, now all I wanna do is get the cash and heave my arse back to the motherland, and buy anything there, but i WANT MY MONEY! Ive done 90hours of work, and that's not community service, argh! I makes me so mad, I mean it's not just 'not paying the young employee on his first job' it's saying 'we don't give a shi*t about you, you're nobody, we're doing the favor of paying you ANYTHING (mah boy!)'. Crap, that's total disrespect... And that's my first job, so yeah, it really made me angry. Now, I get my cash, get my ticket and show them the middle finger... IF I get my cash, if not then I suddenly become homeless... yay. Damn corporations and their unhumane attitude towards their workers.

Good luck with the exam. Can imagine theory must be very boring and would be a great relief for you when the practical part will be starting. Probably going to be very entertaining for at least the first while. Hope you will sound better than the service I was talking to yesterday when I registered for a free "Rich Dad" Workshop. I am on holiday in Vancouver right now and found this an interesting Workshop to attend. It was advertised in the local newspaper with a 1-800 number to call, so it turned out the registration number was to a service like the one you are starting in. The first guy who answered sounded like an automated voicemail. Dead and dull, although he did have beautiful elocution in English, but there was zero spirit in it. The second lady sounded just plain bored with it all. She was also reading from materials that she had to advise me about.

Maybe they need the training that you are getting now Smile
Da Rossa
Err. Don't bother anymore people..... I've just been fired.

On day 13. The circumstances were so strange. Some say I was 'overqualified'. The frustating part was not the kick itself, but they keeping the truth from me.

Thanks for your testimony dean!
deanhills
Well all I can say is that the shoe perhaps did not fit you, much too small in size! And maybe it is a compliment to you. You are destined for greater things Smile

Thanks!!
The bad part was the experience I was stripped off. It would be good to know, for the first time, a job relationship, dealing with a boss, etc. Sad
Sundossa
gratz, im getting my first noob job in a week, i love it, who doesnt love taking orders from mcdonalds for minimal wage Laughing
slashlu
YOU DO WELL,congratulations.

i got my first job only $150 per month.
Da Rossa
just fyi: I've been fired 13 days after admission, and today I'm ABSOLUTELLY HAPPY about it. If it wasn't for the dismissal, I'd be working in that hole, which my mates tell me via MSN that is the worst place to work. Moreover I wouldn't get my máx marks in all my 5 subjects at college.

Congratulations! Which year are you in now, and how many still to go? Is there any possibility that you can article with a law firm at some or other stage to make some extra money?
Da Rossa
Hoho hold on boy! I'm still in semester 2/10 ! Going to third!!
And I'll have to study A LOT before attempting such a large business like that. The suffering is a must before everything. But thanks for the impulse! Very Happy
