:-( George Carlin has died

ericf
Just thought I'd let everyone know. http://www.voanews.com/english/Entertainment/2008-06-23-voa12.cfm

This guy was definitely one of my top three favorite comedians and he was a huge influence on how current comedians do their acts. There are few celebrities who I actually feel something for when they pass, but having read Carlin's books and seen his stand-up and heard his philosophies on the most random crap... It makes me sad that he's gone.

First Tim Russert and now George Carlin. Normally I wouldn't care for the death of famous people, but people like Russert and Carlin were candles in a dark world.

Carlin will be definitely missed.

This is definitely upsetting. Not only was he a great comedian, but he was also opened your eyes to a lot of the stupidity and insanity going on. I am disappointed that I never had an opportunity to see him live.

The world has lost a great comic.
Jinx
Well shit, piss, ******, ******, ******, cocksucker, and tits. *

Rest in peace, George. You will be missed.

(* for those not familiar with Carlin's work, these are the "seven words you absolutely can't say on television", and they are the basis of his most famous comedy routine. Therefore, while some may find them offensive, I say them with the utmost respect, and as a tribute to this talented man.)

And apparently you can't say them all here either Rolling Eyes

I knew George Carlin, he was a friend of the family, and the first thing I found amazing is how when we spoke it was just like speaking with your next door neighbor. I've spoken to a couple of other people who met him and they said the same thing. If you look at his website he had gigs lined up til the end of the year and he was 71. An earlier poster mentioned Tim Russert... I saw George getting interviewed by Russert this year, they really seemed to enjoy working together. What great loss for so many people.

Apparently I am like the only person in the U.S to never have heard of this guy until he died. When he died everyone kept telling me and I was like, "Who?"

Maybe it comes from growing up with no cable or satellite TV (to this day) and watching very little TV as a whole butt re-runs of sitcoms on Fox at night and shows online.

Hm. Either way may he rest in peace. I think later I might youtube some of his videos.

I saw him tape a note to a parking meter in Hollywood a few years ago. Because is/was a hero of mine, I swiped it.

It said:
This meter don't like my money.
-George Carlin

I wish I still had it, I gave it to a friend of mine whom I haven't spoken to in a while.
