Windows Aero GUI on XP PC

HalfBloodPrince
My PC currently runs on Windows XP and I don't plan to change that any time soon. Windows Aero (the GUI used in Vista) looks really cool, and I was wondering if there was any way to get JUST the GUI onto XP?

Thanks

Here you go:

Follow everything in that article and your XP installation will look like Vista Smile

Or better still download Vista Transformation Pack.

I think latest version is 8.1

It offers you Vista UI, sidebar, vista style orb, vista start menu, 3-D aero effect, vista wallpapers, themes, screensavers, glass UI, small view from taskbar etc. etc.

I did not found anything more complete than it.

You need a very high end computer to run all this, and at least a gig (or more) of ram. The best bet would to patch the uxtheme.dll and go from there, you can find any theme just by using Google.

Yeah you would need more RAM and processing power for it but not 1GB or more! I think 512MB would be sufficient to achieve decent performance. Man 1GB or more is the actual Vista requirement and vista transformation pack is just a kind of collection of little applications to give vista-like look.

Also, if you patch uxtheme.dll , you will get some look of vista but many things like login screen, boot screen, hibernation screen, chkdsk screen( Shocked ) etc. etc. wont be available.

Plus you wont get vista-like start menu, sidebar, orb etc. etc.

Yes, it also seems a very good software. I particularly liked its 'Live Reflection' feature.

whatever you do, it will slow down your system considerably. so unless u have a high configuration, its not worth it. be happy with windows interface. its not that bad, is it? bored of it then try windows blind, they have good themes. there are some few aero themes too but dont know if its worth the trouble.

good luck and do let us know what u have done with ur system.

Uhm Actually that's kind of false, last year i ran Vista Transformation Pack on my laptop which has 512 meg of ram , and it ran just fine.

I've seen this project before, actually... I think i may have posted it on frihost a few months ago.. or i know i posted something of this nature on here. Razz

I used to used the modded uxtheme, but.... meh i've gotten bored of the whole vista look and stuff.

Recently i've gone for a more linux look on windows... Or a more .. Techy/pixel like themes lately.

So what i did was got this thing they have for linux called "Blackbox". it just so happens that they have a number of windows ports of this WM.

http://bb4win.sourceforge.net/bblean/ <- Thats the one i use, BBlean
.. Actually i think all the projects are based off BB4Win, and they're just branches of it. But either way.

http://xoblite.net/plugins.html <- Some plugins , You can load like.. Cpu/Bandwidth usage bars.

http://www.bb4win.org/ <- BB4Win Site

And finally the best themes i've seen so far for blackbox

It's not everyone's thing .. but i enjoy using it Wink
