I like plants of the odd variety the best. What do you like?

I've always liked exotic rain forest plants. Sunflowers are nice also, because I liked to take the seeds out and cook them.

I'm pretty fond of Tsuga canadensis, myself.

I personaly LOVE The columbine flower. Its super hardy and hybridizes into fantastic color combinations. Roses are a close second.

And odd as in rare, or strange looking?

Odd as in anything with unusual adaptations/foliage/flowers. I grow a lot of carnivorous plants and look forward to getting some ant plants (Myrmecodia/Hydnophytum) and living stones (Lithops) soon. I find them fascinating. Cool

For some odd reason, I can kind of connect with plants... (Perhaps you've seen my 'plants have souls' sig?)
I'll keep the story short and just say I have a very odd sort of psychic connection with plants. (It works with some other things too, but not as well.) I can sort of feel what they feel, think how they think, if I'm close or especially if I'm touching them.

Anyway, now that you know that you can understand this:

My favorite plants are the trees. I get such a feeling of strength, solidarity, depth, and mystery when I'm focusing on one. The larger and older the better. Small, young plants are fun, but a tree has something hard to find in other things.

I don't know if he knew about it or not, but I think Tolkien had the same sort of thing; he very much liked trees, and some of the things in his books suggest that he could feel the same things about them.

(I don't suppose that helps you much though, does it... Sorry.)

Yum! Wink

Disclaimer: I did not feed the night lizard to the plant. He managed to get caught all by himself. In fact, I rarely feed my carnivorous plants anything.

I like large flowers.

I like plants a lot. Most of the plants I collect are CAM plants (cacti, succulents, epiphytes etc.). Most of them are very easy to grow, fun, and beautiful. I have many cacti, bromeliads, a few orchids, and several other succulents. Many plant stores, and greenhouses completely overlook many of the CAM plants because most are very slow growers. I think thats another reason why they are so cool, because they are very slow growing, and long lived. Not to mention their extremely unique metabolic pathways making them CAM plants.

I like plants that produce food. I enjoy watching them grow. Can't hardly wait for picking time. Foods just taste better when you grow them yourself.

My favorite plants to keep indoors are cactus. I have a cat who loves to eat houseplants and I need a plant that can sort of defend itself. LOL.

I also like a plant called a Spider Plant. They can grow well in a hanging basket, (so I can keep them out of reach of my cat), they are non-toxic to pets and people too, and they are great for helping to clean indoor air. They don't get seeds (I think) what they do is send out 'runners' that grow tiny baby Spider Plants at the end of the runners. These babies can be snipped off and planted to grow new plants. And they grow quickly too.

If I were going to try selling plants or seeds online, I think I would try herb seeds. Not so much herbs for cooking but I'd start learning about healing herbs, pick a few that would grow well in my area and start raising them and collecting the seeds. Those seeds could then be either sold or used to expand your base stock. Some plants can also be grown from cuttings. A little online research should tell you which ones and you could increase your stock that way too.

Cactus, however, are hard to grow from seeds. Mostly, I think because they grow so slowly.

Just my 2 cents,
Chad

I love tulips. Real colourful ones. I know they are really associated with the Netherlands, but in Vancouver, BC Downtown they usually flower all over in an abundance of colours during May of the year. I also love cherry blossom trees. Especially when they are in bloom.
