To defeat spyware just one application isn't enough. Hitman Pro it's free and gets together many kinds of applications, like: Ad-Aware SE, SpyBot Search & Destroy, Spy Sweeper, Spyware Doctor, CWShredder, Spyware Blaster, NOD32, Sysclean package. Most of these programs are freeware, some are limited trial editions, after the trial period you may choose to continue to use them or not (it supports the full versions 
).
Because I'm lazy person I like to have an application doing it all for me (install every program, do the updates, do the scan and consequential removal/clean of infected files). But expect to have your PC busy some hours 
(3, 4 programs doing deep scans...) try using kaspersky 7.0....
I heard NOD32 was also a very good virus scanner (and that it doesn't use much memory (like Norton) ) Hitman pro I'll give it a try. thanxxx man.

Also superantisphyware is pretty good too plus try Avast as your FREE antivirus package
Avira is the top AntiVirus if we check only detection rate. But it has some problems with cleaning viruses and has some annoying bugs, so I would rather recommend NOD32 and Kaspersky.
Good spyware protection is very important as well, Webroot Spysweeper really does great job here.
got any free nod32 or kaspersky out there? any freel version will do..... but ofcourse full version will be awesome. I don't like cracking a trial version though. I want something that is legal
Combo fix shouldn't be used unless told by a professional. It could shred your computer into nothing if you don't know what you're doing.
why do you need anti virus? iits better off to keep the system clean and know what you are doing. i got windoes defender and default friewall installed which seems to do what is needed. anywayz i'll download the stuffs and get my system check out.

Use spyware doctor, the best antispy software. Anything else is just hoax, or most antispy softwares are themselves spywares. So choose the safe one. U can check for reviews of spyware doctor over the internet.
For Spyware Removal AVG is the best or try out Zonealaram firewall with antivirus and spyware
I use NOD32 with Comodo Pro Firewall (NOD32 costs money, Comodo is completely free) and so far I like the results. And yes there is noticeably less resources used by NOD32 when compared to Norton, which I had before (and man was it hellish to remove).
As a side note, I used Combofix rather stupidly without knowing what it is, but I was saved by a bit of luck because I had searched for a specific set of trojans I got from a school computer, and found a professional site where someone with the same exact problem was recommended Combofix. All I can say is, for that particular instance, it OWNED that virus. 'Twas a bit scary how it went about it too, but in an impressive way
