Alright l'm tired of hearing Americans say they own sports, so name some of there popular sports:
Canadian invented sports
Football
Hockey
Lacrosse
And basketball.
Non-american sports
Cricket, soccer, badminton, etc..
Why do americans get so much credit though?
Think it is because the States are an enormous country population wise, capitalistic and via that route the most competitive country in the world. There is so much more stress to perform well than for example in Canada. Although Canadians are also super competitive their neighbours are compelled to do better than anybody else. The winner really gets everything and the loser nothing. And being second is regarded as losing, not being second. The millions of dollars going into every sport of course makes it that more competitive, attracts more press and media through PR. Guess it is money that makes it that big. Also an enormous population of approx 350-million people? Vs Canadian 32-million? More spectators, more pressure, more competition. I do not see it as negative though. For someone to get to be the best in the United States, is REALLY the best and I enjoy the media coverage for such sports for example as gymnastics.
But you are right, they do not own all the sports. How about ice hockey? Do not think they could ever beat Canadians in ice hockey and Canadians are also excellent at ice skating. Then soccer and rugby. Cannot imagine the US participating in those sports. Cricket? Three enormous sports - soccer, rugby and cricket.
You forgot HOCKEY (invented in Nova Scotia) and BASEBALL (likely invented in Ontario).
Yes... BASEBALL.
Cooperstown is revisionist history. Blinded by patriotism, baseball historians refused to even look at various claims in Canada.

Umm l didn't forgot it
It sucks thought, that our national sport (lacrosse), is so poorly funded. A hall of famer, captain of the rock, one of the best players, and he gets paid 30K a year, works a full time job, and trains at night... Using this as an example, our athletes will never stay here. Look at our olympic athletes who have to PAY to train, where in the US they get huge grants etc... Talent Drain, Brain Drain all drains are influenced by funding.
