Awesome, tell me more about your hobby. You just like to watch planes/aircraft or also got a special project going? I've seen some of those custom built cockpits around on the internet, are you building one ?

This is the beuatiful Mikoyan Gurrevich MiG-29 Fulcrum

My hobby started when my dad took me to an airshow, here in Holland. I believe it was Volkel AFB.
I was 6 years old then, and loved the sound and smell of jet engines. I'm currently building an F-16 block 52 old style cockpit Laughing , see some pictures here.

This is the state of my pit ATM

This is the Aces II ejection seat I'm working on right now

I considere the F-5 freedom fighter to be one of the most beautiful jets around, it has the perfect Coca-Cola bottle shape, and looks really agile. Have fun!

You can see how small this plane actually is, it is also used as an agressor to simulate enemy aircraft in a dogfight.

Awesome! Its starting to look awesome. What flight-sim will you use for it ? Falcon ? Flight Simulator? X-plane? or all of them ? Razz

Cool, I have some kind of similar hobby. I often play around with my Flight Simulator, but most of all I'm a virtual air traffic controller.

If you are not only interested in this, but also wish to know more about navigating and flying, you can check out www.vatsim.net. Its like flying online, and also controlling.

Its a very professional and harmonic community. We act like we are in real life, you need to do exams priory to controlling solo. So every time you fly, you are sure you are treathed like any other real world plane with real world procedures and ATC phraseology.

Here are some screenshots/movies (from both Controller side and pilot):

Introduction to VATSIM (pilot side) with ATC like it happens on VATSIM all the time: http://youtube.com/watch?v=uPiQlndpLOQ

Radar screens: http://www.metacraft.com/VRC/ss_main_display_large.shtml

Hope u like it and maybe u even join it Wink

I prefer flying military sims, so I think that's not really my kind of stuff. But how can you be a air traffic controller in flight simulator, is it an add-on or what is it?

I must say that Flight Sim X is about the best to come from Microsoft.

There are a few other simulators which were far better like Aline Traffic Pilot (ATP) which fitted on 1 by 1.44 siffy device and had full routing, air traffic control routing and speach (which worked), the auto pilots worked perfectly on ALL airports and they used acutal flight paths found on any Jepperson map.

It took Microsfot quiet a while to catch up and many GB's more to do this. Yes I know most of the GIG's of space are for the excellent graphics but I wonder why MS the Flight Simulator engine right with version FS2004 and then there are still major problems even in Version X especial with the airport and auto pilot, for instance Johannesburg Internation does not even look close to the actual airport terrian, it seems the development and great airport graphics only is on the major USA cities and some Eoupean and Asian cities.

Oh yes I am fairly new to Frihost, can anyone explain how I can include a photo in my posting?

Above your message body you will see some buttons (tags)
One of these tags is the Image tag (Img)

1 Press on it
2 Enter the link to your picture
3 Press again on the button to close the tag.

At the end it should look like this

Code:
[img]http://image_url[/img]

You can enter as much links to pictures as you want.
Do consider the size of your image. Do not place links to too larger pictures as this will make the layout to look a bit disordered

RC model jet engines have really proliferated in the last 10 years.
There are lots of cool youtube videos about them.

I have been in the Frasca cockpit simular manufacturing plant in Champaign IL several times. That is a fantastic tour to see things like full sized 747 cockpits on huge computer controlled articulated bases. Any kid that complains about why they need to study school lessons needs to go through a facility like that.

I am currently doing some technical writing for a facility that has two 8mw cogen gas turbines.
I sit just 20' from one of them, and some of my projects have been some of their operating procedures. They are made by a company called Solar. It's a jet engine that uses the exhaust to pass through a Heat Recovery Steam Generator HRSG (pronounced 'her-sig').

Big fan of military aircraft. Been to a few airshows out in Cali/Nevada and they're always spectacular, especially the Vegas/Nellis AFB one.

You can probably guess my favorite one Wink
