Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition 1.06
One of the first applications built to find and remove adware and spyware, Ad-aware SE Personal Edition's excellent reputation is well justified. The sky-blue, skinnable interface features five buttons. The first two, Status and Scan, lead to the core function of the application. These buttons initiate a scan of your files for adware components. After scanning is complete, the program presents a summary of results, followed by a list from which you select exactly which components to remove. Right-clicking an individual entry gives some information about the piece of suspected adware, though we would like more details. Ad-aware SE can alert you to more malignant forms of malware by separating items into critical and negligible categories. The third button, Ad-watch, is nonfunctional in the Standard version. The fourth button, Plug-ins, shows you which Ad-aware plug-ins are installed. The fifth leads to the help files.
Ad-aware SE does an excellent job of quickly finding and removing most adware and spyware components, although you will have to restart and rescan for a seriously infected machine. We were pleased to see an auto-update feature included with the program, keeping Ad-aware up-to-date with the latest adware components. Ad-aware SE should be part of your arsenal for keeping your machine free of adware and spyware components
Top-shelf spyware protection
Effective, reliable, and swift, this antispyware utility stands near the top of its class. Webroot Spy Sweeper's well-designed interface arranges all its major tools on the left side, making it easy to initiate a system scan or access the program's settings via the Options icon. When you click the latter button, you'll find a flexible scheduler and a cookie manager, and you can configure the program to automatically update its definitions whenever new ones become available. Spy Sweeper's Quarantined section will let you restore any components should certain programs cease to function properly after a system scan.
When testing this new version, we noticed a marked increase in scan speeds--it took just more than five minutes to thoroughly scour our system. However, if you want to further hasten the process, you can set Spy Sweeper to ignore large files or direct it to skip cookies. One thing that hasn't changed from past versions, though, is the excellent level of protection this program provides. It did an admirable job of locating and removing all sorts of nasty programs we tossed its way, and its real-time protection was equally effective in stopping intruders on the fly. The application does use a fair amount of system memory, but, all things considered, we think it's a fair trade-off. Unlike some of its competitors, Spy Sweeper isn't free, but this is definitely a piece of software we consider worth the money. Anyone concerned with keeping malicious software off his or her computer is advised to download Spy Sweeper.
Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4
The latest version of Spybot - Search & Destroy adds some truly useful features to an already excellent application. The program still checks your system against a comprehensive database of adware and other system invaders, but it works much faster now. It also features several interface improvements, including multiple skins for dressing up its appearance. Scan results now appear arranged by groups in a tree, and a sliding panel lets you instantly view information about a selected item to help you decide whether to kill it or not. The Immunize feature blocks a plethora of uninvited Web-borne flotsam before it reaches your computer. Other useful tools, including Secure Shredder, complement the program's basic functionality for completely destroying files. Hosts File blocks adware servers from your computer, and System Startup lets you review which apps load when you start your computer. The functionality makes Spybot - Search & Destroy a must-have for all Internet users, and this version is a worthwhile upgrade.
[/b]Spyware Doctor 3.2
With its quick scanning and multiple tools for stopping malware before it infects your computer, Spyware Doctor is a solid spyware remover. The well-designed interface makes getting started a breeze. The program can perform a number of scans, including Quick Scan, which blazes through common trouble spots such as IE cache files. We found scan times to be faster than its competitors, with even the Full System Scan taking under five minutes on our test machine. Spyware Doctor displays scan results clearly, showing file and registry locations, threat level, and a concise description of the threat. The results seemed thorough, and Spyware Doctor had no trouble removing what it had found.
Spyware Doctor's advanced features include real-time protection, a pop-up blocker, a browser monitor, a keylogger guard, and a scheduler. Unfortunately, all of these features are disabled in the free version. The Live Update feature works smoothly, but it must be manually activated. A program such as this really needs an automatic update. We really like the spyware removal features of Spyware Doctor, and consider it one of the most effective available, but the anemic free version will make it hard for users to fully realize its true potential.
i prefer Spyware Doctor as my anti-spyware program. It seems to work well (if u buy it ) but sometimes it does not find any spyware when there is spyware. An alternative (which i have to use time to time ) is probably HijackThis. If u get HijackThis, u can post it on different websites and professional IT people will analyse ur logs for you
