well, as this topic is about help I have my own Q, Normally if I wrote a PHP file on WinXP and I opened it it would use IIS right? well I cant get IIS so is it possible to use Apache for it?

I split the topic. You can make your own if you don't have the same problem/question Wink

Yes you can use apache on windows, I think it would even be easier and better documented than IIS. Try WAMPP as described here: http://frihost.broadkast.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=18

follow this: apache friends - xampp for windows

It may be helpful for you. I too use XAMPP and its really easy.

Another possibility, and a package I have been using for a while now is the Web Developer Server Suite from DevSide (www.devside.net)

- CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD IT -

It comes with:

Apache
MySQL
PHPMyAdmin
Joomla
Wordpress
Drupal
phpBB
MediaWiki

Take a look at the devside website for screenshots and full features list etc.

It also has integrated support for ASP.NET and Java as well.

These programs work great, and yes, PHP/Apache on Windows will work fine. I use it myself. Also, if you want more "custom" values, may I suggest installing PHP on a fresh Apache server? This works if you do not need MySQL.

The root directory is usually something like:

C:\www\webroot

Save your files in there, then to open files in a browser you use localhost

e.g. for a file called index.php in the webroot folder, you would use the following address in your browser:

http://localhost/index.php

DocumentRoot [Webroot] 'C:\www\vhosts\localhost\_\'

C:\www\vhosts\localhost

Wink
So you can make vhosts in C:\www\vhosts, where 3 already are made, and localhost is the standard one to use.

You can install IIS and PHP as a CGI extension. Then you will be able to run both PHP and ASP on the same server.
