Best video editing software?

MetalWolf92
I currently use Windows Movie Maker for my video editing. I make YouTube videos... and I can't find a good and simple program to use to edit my videos with. Can anyone suggest anything?
brokenadvice
It is really hard to beat Windows Movie Maker for Easy. There is probably a large portion of the program left un-tapped. I suggest you put it in timeline mode, and then you can do slightly more.

Have heard good things about Adobe Premiere, but yeah, it's not free.

Another software you can use is VirtualDub. It also converts videos into different formats. Search on Google to get the link.

The one I have used the most is SONY Vegas. It does the job very well, but requires a slight learning curve compared to Windows Movie Maker. There is a trial version that you can get from Sony.
pixelwirx
I use Sony Vegas primarily, Windows Movie maker is very easy compared to Sony, another fairly easy and useful program is U-lead. Good stuff here.
bobmarley
sony vegas is very likely the best out there up to date.

i use it all the time, and i got extremely fustrated when i tried using windows movie maker after having formatted my hard drive >.<

but its back on there now Razz

sorry for the repost but its valid:

I've been an editor for 7 years now and have used a wide variety of diffrent edit applications. It all really depends on what you are tryin to achieve, how skilled you are (experience) & budgets.

Entry Level:
# Pinnacle Studio V x
# Windows Movie Maker
# Apple iMovie

All these applications ar very limited in their capabilities however with some "out of the box" thinking you can achieve alot. Pinnacle systems hae always been a litte too constricting and buggy. Imovie and Movie Maker have been prven to work well for what they are.

Mid Level:
# Sony Vegas Movie Studio
# Adobe Premier Elements
Both of these are strong contenders and equally as good as eachother and both a good step above their contenders. They both have strengths and weknesses whci tend to balance themselves out. For me the scales sway towards Vegas as it is more intuitive.

Entry Level Pro:
# Adobe Premier Pro CS
# Sony Vegas
# Avid DV
Alot of people argue about which is better - Vegas or Premier. Well - when its a software only solution Vegas wins because, like its little brother, its far more intuitive. However Premier Pro has hardware accellaraion available and when this is applied it makeswork flows better. When we are ll runnig 16core CPU's Vegas will really shine tough.

Pro Level:
#Final Cut Pro
#Avid Pro System
I'll say FCP in this level as i can run withot the need of hardware unlike avods therefore to get an FCP suite up and running its cheaper. Running and maintenence come down well. Avid as a company are also in a worried state. While they are still a strong markt contender Apple really are dominating the markt with FCP and now with FCP Server up andrunning - I see Global domination as imminent.

Hope that gives u some insight...

Thanks for the information. Frankly, I have always had difficulty using such software, because all the applications I tried were just so complex for a beginner.

Abobe Premiere Pro, I have not found anything that I cannot do with it. Starting to mess around with some plugins now as well...
Wuppie
I only have experience with Windows Movie Maker, it works kinda good for me.

Movie Maker is good, no doubt but it's way too simple when you want to improve your videos...

I'd definitely recommend Sony Vegas. I have the Platinum 6.0 edition, and just edited a 30-minute film on it. The film had only a few visual effects (ie: muzzle flash), but it worked just fine. If you wanted to do more complicated visual work, then you'd need something more powerful (like the ridiculously expensive After Effects). But coupled with a few good third-party plug-ins (there is a very good colour correcting one I used), Vegas really works brilliantly. And it's pretty easy to work.

my movie maker crashes for some reason, when i upload my vids Shocked

I use Premiere (plus After Effects and other Adobe stuff) and I'm just wondering, what makes Final Cut Pro and Avid Pro better?

I have always been partial to the Pinnacle software. It may be a bit complicated at first, but it has just about everything you'd need right there in one program. And while it's not free, it is worth the price. I am currently editing a short suspense film and Pinnacle works great for Audio, Video, Transitions, and Titling. There's even seamless support of SmartSound, which is good in a pinch.

Adobe Premier Elements 4 is pretty good but not free

all you need is windows with 1.3GHz with
256 MB (512 recommended)
A Mouse. A 16-bit Color display with
1024x768 resolution at 96
DPI or less. A CD-Rom drive,
and around 4.5 GB hard disk space

I have been using Ulead Media Studio Pro or nearly 10 years now and I still think it is the best as far as features, user interface, ease of use. It is fairly easy to learn how to use it and has lots of great features. I like it much better than Adobe Premier.

I am using version 8 now, which I think is still the latest version.

Hi... Very Happy

I agree with Irishmark...Those software with their expected level...

If you want to do a simple video, I suggest you use Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere Elements.

But if you want to add something special, try to liase with After Effects as well.
moorthyrweb
You may try ADOBE PREMIERE cs3 for editing your video files.
Kelcey
Adobe lets you download free trials of Premiere. You can give it a shot. It works well. I've used FCP on the Mac and that works well too.
katnicolas
The best program to which you can edit your videos is Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0
guissmo
I use Ulead, as suggested by my video-editor friend. But I can look at the other suggestions here too.
I like Ulead because it's simple, compact and fast.
The others work slowly in my PC.
seirus501
Sony Vegas, there are free trials

FCP and Avid are the industry standards, and most industry professionals worldwide prefer them over Premiere Pro, although I've never seen Premiere Pro not do anything those two can, so I don't know why the bias. But one industry insider told me the preference for FCP and Avid over Premiere Pro is because Adobe products are very buggy, and crash a lot.

But that still means they use After Effects as an industry standard for compositing though.
amperx
aftereffects + premiere would be good too, but its not free
or you could use sony vegas
vicar013
Sony Vegas 8 is probably one of the best programs out there for A/V editing, very adaptable, and cheap for what it is. Adobe however is far cheaper and you may see more support with Premiere... Then theres stuff like Virtual dub (freeware) if you just want simple cut and edit facilities.
DarthVadersDAD
I use rebaslight and movie maker. rebaslight for the special effects and movie maker for cutting, music, transitions etc...
devaco
Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 11 ..........just try this one then you wil know how easy it is to use...
ikanep
Studio is cool i use that one but i also like Premire... only thing is that Studio is more user friendly..
Cliffer
i use Premier,and it's good to me
