Ubuntu on Compaq 6715b

Help!

Have anyone of you experience in installing drivers on ubuntu?
I am in possession of a HP Compaq 6715b computer, and am trying to get the wlan card to work in Ubuntu, but I can't (I am sort of Linux n00b then...).

I have tried to install ndiswrapper and then the right windows drivers, but

- Ubuntu registers the card if I type lspci, but it doesn't show up under network properties
- It also seems that Ubuntu prefers to use a "standard" driver instead of the right one. And I don't know how to set which driver is to be used.

I use the new Ubuntu 8.04.

Which card is that?
Have you checked https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/internet/C/wireless.html ?
Also, ubuntu mailing list might be useful if you don't get your answer here.

It is a Broadcom 4311 card.
I eventually found out that the problem was that I only had installed the drivers for the card, and not the firmware. Then I figured out how to get it running in Feisty (7.10), however Ubuntu still wouldn't budge.

At last I found out that the Ubuntu 8.04 kernel (2.6.24-16) currently is not supporting the firmware. So I either have to patch, downgrade to 2.6.24-14 or upgrade to the (not yet fully released) 2.6.24-17.
