All prices should be in $

right, 1st off, these should really be in Euros, as this is a more common currency on this forum. And everything seems cheaper in Euros!

2ndly. May I suggest a few updates to your list, just to clarify things

Here it is for us (in USD):

1 Litre of full fat milk: ~$0.5
1 minute land-line to land-line phone call to a phone 100km away (within same country, if possible): free (dependent on package) (I guess so, I assume you are talking about a local call. We only use cell phones for long-distance calling these days).
1 Kg Sugar : Not sure
Cable Television service per month: $60 (this is only local channels and one or two national channels. It also includes cable internet)
1 adult Movie ticket at 9pm Friday : $9
1 Big Mac :$2.50?
1 Main course in restaurant (excluding fast food+take away) (average price): $10
1 Year of College education in General Science Degree (yearly): $25,000 (at my college, if you go to a state school, it will be much, much cheaper)

It interesting to see how prices differ between the different countries. Here are the prices from Germany.

All prices in EUR
country: Germany
1 Litre of full fat milk: under 1
1 minute landline to landline phone call to a phone 100km away (within same country, if possible): most people have a flatrate, I guess, so it's more or less free
1 Kg Sugar : ~1.50
Cable Television service per month: 17
1 adult Movie ticket at 9pm Friday : 8-17 (depending if cinema is in downtown or in the outskirts)
1 Big Mac : I think ca. 3,50 but I am very unsure, because I normally don't go to McDonald's
1 Main course in restaurant (excluding fast food+take away) (average price): 15
1 Year of College education in General Science Degree (yearly): ~1000 per year

For those of us who has to convert the value into something "understandable" anyway, nor euros or dollars make much difference in the work which has to be done...

Country: Norway, EUR for the occasion:
1 Litre of Milk : 0.63
1 minute of long distance phone call: Depends a lot on where/how and to who
1 Kg Sugar : 3,21
Cable Television service per month: 28
1 movie ticket at peak season : 10
1 Big Mac : about 3
1 Main course in restaurant (excluding fast food+take away) (average price): 12-20

@ GB, what country was that for? (PMed in case he doesn't check this)
I'm guessing estonia or latvia from his signature Razz

@ Shewolf, my reasoning for that was that 12 people would give information in euros for seperate countries, but only 1 would for dollars. There are also some countries whose currencies are pegged to the euro.

I also agree that EUROS are probably better, and if you're going to specify "dollars" specify which "dollars"... as we Australians also refer to our currency as "dollars".

Quote:
1 Litre of full fat milk: $2 AUD (1.21388 EUR, 1.87060 USD)
1 minute landline to landline phone call to a phone 100km away : $ 0.25 AUD (0.151736 EUR, 0.233540 USD) (a lot cheaper, even free, on some plans)
1 Kg Sugar : $ 1.75 AUD (1.06222 EUR, 1.63478 USD)
Cable Television service per month: $ 20 - 100+ AUD (12.1397 - 60.6984 EUR, 18.6880 - 93.4398 USD )
1 adult Movie ticket at 9pm Friday : $ 15
(9.10411 EUR, 14.0160 USD)
1 Big Mac : $ 3.75 AUD? (2.27603 EUR, 3.50396 USD) I can't remember the last time I ate Maccas though
1 Main course in restaurant: <10 cheap, 20 average, >30 getting expensive. (10 AUD = 6.06765 EUR, 9.34390 USD)1 Year of College education in General Science Degree (yearly): 5 000 - 15 000 (10 000 AUD = 6,065.96 EUR, 9,341.616 USD)

On university studies, exact cost depends on the Uni, and an interest free loan called HECS is available (that you don't need to pay back until you're earning over 30 grand a year... aka get a job).

NOTE: I don't know how good these comparisons will be on general items, i.e. 1l full cream milk, as at least in Australia the prices range from 1 through to 3 dollars depending on brand name and/or quality. Same with mocie tickets, degrees, cable, etcetera.
I.e. I haven't given the cheapest prices, just what I think I'd pay.

Particularly the restaurant prices are complicated. I can go and get a simple main for 7 bucks somewhere small and casual, but if I went out to a restaurant as an event in itself I'd probably pay 15 - 30 bucks depending on what food I'm ordering. (I.e. chicken vs. lobster).
