Does anyone still try playing any of the Tomb Raider stuff these days. All the reports of the last couple of games leave one with the impression they are rather on the mediocre side. Also heard of web sites withv"Fan" written stuff, but nothing sparkling. I guess the folk who play these are perhaps living a little in the past, or are stuck in a "familiar game" loop.
Lara Croft and all that
I still play the Tomb Raider games I have at home on the PS2 and PS3 when I have time to waste.
I've never played a full tomb raider game. I played the tomb raider 1 demo way back on my pc... didn't really like it. I played the 360 demo too... didn't care much for that either.
I played the 4th part all the way to the end - it was a decent enough game, but the ending got me so disappointed that I never bothered to play any of the other parts for more than half an hour into the first levels.
Personally I thought Tomb Raider started to stagnate at around Last Revelation - it was mostly all the same, and most new ideas didn't actually add much imo and in a lot of cases just clogged up the experience.
Having said that, the last 2 games were quite well recieved and I thought revived the series pretty well, getting a more action-focused, accessile version of Tomb Raider with a lot of pick-up and play value but still enough depth, especially with Anniversary, to keep the old fans happy. Tomb raider has become much more fluid and pacy, and is all the better for it imo.
I think Crystal Dynamics look set to continue this trend of keeping the games accessible yet deep, and I hope they continue to do well. As long as they don't rest on their laurels and allow the franchise to stagnate again Tomb Raider should continue to regain its position of a top class adventure series.

I bought Tomb Raider: Legend for the GameCube and played TR 1-3 loooong time ago on PC.
What can I say - Crystal Dynamix really did a quite good game and they made things better than Eidos.
I completed it and just thought the end was a bit overdone, but the game itself kept me playing till I found every secret.
I didn't do the time trials because it's too annoying to restart the whole level just because you didn't run fast enough in one tunnel so the whole time is ruined.
And some levels - especially the motorcycle pursuits - are so fun that I play them again sometimes.
But all in all, I wouldn't consider it superb, but also not bad. Somewhere between mediocre and good

I got Angel of Darkness together with my video card and never played it. And I'm not going to play it. Her only advantage is big... hmmm.... you all know what
i play tombrader cause laura croft is hot.. lol
i use to play tombraider for playstation but not any more the game is boring lol
LOL funny u should mention lara. I have every game for PS1... TR1, TR2, TR3, Revelation, Chronicles, Legend, and I'm beating Anniversary right now.
I think that Tomb Raider Legend and Anniversary are some pretty tight games. They offer action, cool environments and storytelling, and the puzzles aren't so tough you end up beating your head against a wall just to get a different perspective on the latest challenge. I also enjoy the occasional platformer. The funny thing, however, is that my wife--quite possibly one of the worst platformers I know--really really likes the games(more than me, I'd say), even though she has a hilariously difficult time traversing Anniversary's jumps and ledges.
The new TR looks to be really exciting, almost taking strides towards the gritty gameplay of Assassin's Creed or something.

I play these games very often and I totally love them. I first came in contact with Angel of Darkness which happen to be the worst game of all by most fans but I loved it. Compared to the rest it has the best story. I stopped playing it because of the controls but I can't hold myself back to play it once in a while.
I do play Legend and Anniversary very often and it are great games. The only problem is that after you've finished those games it will take a while before you get new interest in solving the same old puzzles.

I may sound silly, but I still like to play Tomb Rider I from time to time, first part of the sequel. I find it really nice to remember what it felt like to play it for the first time a long time ago, when it landed on shops. It changed quite a bit the mechanics (mostly speed 3D environment processing) that I used to know up to that time.
Ah, good memories of well thought 3rd person camera games.

Ewww that game pee'd me off too many times! I hate games which have illusions and traps
Tomb Raider is one of my favourite games of all time. I've wasted my great deal of life playing 1,2,3, Last Relevation(I think this one is 4) and Legend(this one maybe 7 or 8?). But I played all of them on PC. I think Lara Croft is the sexiest woman in the game world.
I loved the first one to bits when it came out. Got all excited about number 2, and then it turned out to be pretty boring (and have far too much 'people killing in' - not that I have anything against that in a game, but I liked Tomb Raider for the puzzles). They were then progressively worse.
Never actually played Legend, but Anniversary is fantastic. Really excellent revival they've done there, capturing the magic of the original and yet making it fresh and cool [and the controls are excellent].

Has anyone tried the fan written levels you can get from sites like
www.trle.net
Have heard some are quite good but others not even worth a download.

I loved tomb raider 2. I think this is the best because we got to frollick in her own house in her swimming pool and then when you swim to the corner the camera angle gets stuck on a closeup of her bumbum. HAHAHA!
Na it was the best though I feel nostalgic thinking about it. Anyone who's played this should agree. I played the later ones. The feeling of original lara games is lost.

I actually get irritated by people who tend to make sexual jokes about Lara and I hate the nude patch >:(
Same answer applies to every game where a guy plays a girl character:
It's not about identifying with the character, it's about what's more visually attractive. For most men, girls are more pleasing to the eye than guys, let's face it. Same reason why a lot of guys like movies with female lead roles.

Don't mind Raiders stuff or Lara, but I do agree with you Flakky that sexulity does not count , but game play does. Also I have played all the TR games (now he admits to it) and have never even dreamt of using the nude patch, although I had heard many moons ago one was in existance.
I played Tomb Raider Anniversary a few days ago. No much interesting.

@OsLendas: Too bad you don't like it :/
Tomb Raider: Underworld should be announced and dated for Next-generation consoles at E3 next week. There's a couple screenshots floating around if you google it.
Never much a fan of the series, probably won't play this one when it comes out.

Ahh
problem as I only play PC games, too stingy to go in for games consoles

perfectly understandable =P There other recent ones were on PC too, no? I'm sure the new one won't be any different. I don't keep up with pc much, mines awful

I played the first Tomb Raider years ago and I didn't really like it. It was too slow and the story wasn't too exciting for me.
