Blog Advertising Questions

Hey everyone,

So I was thinking about using my frihost address for some blogging just to learn how to use adsense and maximize it. I'm not expecting anything other than learning how adsense works. So I have a few questions.

1. I want to blog on different topics... would it be more advisable to just get a bunch of domains or is it fine to separate them to their own sections on one website?

2. Is it better to advertise on my own site or use something like blogspot?

For number one, if you plan on blogging about really diverse topics like science, anime, computers, and so on, then you might want to just use subdomains for each topic instead of buying a bunch of domain names, which would be a waste of resources. For instance, if you bought your own domain, kelcey.com, you'll have subdomains like science.kelcey.com, anime.kelcey.com, tech.kelcey.com, and so on. The advantage that I see in this approach is that you could install different web applications (blogging software, content management systems, etc.) in each subdomain. This is because each subdomain is represented by a different directory under your domain name:

Very interesting. I have one more question. I don't think I could really run a blog about just one topic... which is why I wanted to do multiple.

Now would blogging on so many topics hurt my adsense clicks/etc? It seems like it'd be better if I could do one thing really well... but I just don't have much to say about ONE thing. I think I have some interesting stuff to say about multiple subjects, but not enough to survive off one.

In my personal opinion, buying one domain and then blogging under various subdomains is good only if you are going for a more "personal" level of blogging. If you are going for a more professional touch, I'd suggest having separate domains, if practical. Also, if you are going this way, I suggest that you concentrate on mainly 2 or 3 topics, rather than going for a bunch of topics.

And about adsense, I don't have enough experience talk about that one. Sad

But I believe that if you use some topics which can give some decent CTR (you could try some Keyword Research tools for this), and you advertise each topic site separately, you'd have some success with adsense. Smile
