Although "Half-Life", "Grand-Theft-Auto" and "Age of Empires" have left a lasting impression, I'd like to add a few older ones to the list such as "Leasure-Suit-Larry" and "Monkey Island" which, today, cannot compete graphically, but were eminently playable, intelligent and humorous adventures and, for almost a decade, constituted the avantgarde of computer gaming.
LostOverThere
Here's mine.

    -Half Life 2 (PC)
    -Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
    -Perfect Dark (Nintendo 64)
    -Any Vertigo Gaming Game (PC)
    -Lemmings (PC, others)
-A source Game (PC Editions are best)

Oh come on. That's an utterly terrible game. Monkey island is good though.

... and don't anyone mention anything to do with grinding through hundreds of monsters - muhmorpuguhs aren't really that good.

I would recommend Fire Emblem though. Just pick one of the GBA games and try it - it's really worth it.

Okay, let me work this out. The games we're posting are the ones that we particularly enjoyed. But, this is something that obviously varies from person to person, so other people have no more need to play that game than any other that's been called excellent before. Also, the games recommended to play 'before you die' are only going to be the ones that the poster has, in fact, already played. So ...

Oh, I get it!

Note to self: Play Advance Wars: Dual Strike. I love the Advance Wars series, and that's the one game in it I haven't played, and should do so before I die. Rolling Eyes

I'm not much of gamer, but I think one should try out Never Ending Level Game Razz

Also, I have the same thing about RuneScape. Never really understood why anyone would pay to play it though.

I love the old games for playability, on the PC.

The games I went back to and was surprised to see how good they still were include:

MDK 2
Diablo 2
Lemmings
Broken Sword (the first one)

I am looking forward to Diablo 3.

I have recently been playing

Soldiers: Heroes of WWII
Conflict Denied Ops
FIFA08
Painkiller
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
Sinbad (with my son)

My kids are always playing Sims 2 and Sims 2 Pets.

I guess that is it at the moment.

I am looking forward to playing on a LAN with my son:

Dugeon Siege II
Baldur's Gate 1 & 2
Neverwinter's Night 1 & 2

I had a an Atari 2600 (also know as the Atari VCS) on which I played Defender all the time.
I then moved onto a Commodore 64 and was hooked on Activision Decathlon and Falcon Patrol II amongst others.
Then I got myself an Amiga 500 with expanded memory and played Powermonger and Kick Off.
I also played Skidmarks on the Amiga 4000 at work.

I then moved onto the PC and Playstation. I have already posted about my fave PC games. On the PS1 I played Tony Hawk and Snowboarding games as well as Tekken 3 and FIFA 01.

I think my taste have changed over time like today i spend no time playing games like Street Fighter/Tekken etc, i prefer more things that i need to "think".
Whzeb
I recommend Halo 3, i also like tiiba, it's a very nice rpg game, addicting...but nice.
wahoyaho
Couple of years ago I would have said Unreal Tournament 99, but seeing as how the online community has almost completely gone and none of the successors are remotely as fun, I can't say there is one game that must be played Mad
kitsrock
defcon - while it is not the greatest game ever made, it certainly is a game to try.
pontifex - a bridge building game, i was hooked on it for months.
toribash3 - a unique game engine that certainly deserves a try.

I'm glad to see a few users actually remember Diablo 2 and Starcraft. It's been a great long wait for the next versions of these. 10 years for Starcraft, and 7 for Diablo. Every day I am at Blizzards site looking for updates.

Can't wait! Very Happy
