Favorite College Football Team

Alright, so most colleges have wrapped up Spring Practice with the ever-so-exciting Spring Game (somewhat sarcastic).

Anyway, just wondering who everyone's college football team is. Mine is none other than the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Granted, 2007 was a tough season, but we have a new coach and a new attitude, which really showed during the Spring Game. There were still alot of problems that needed to be fixed in order for the Cornhuskers to have a successful season, but hopefully those can be addressed during fall practice.

So....whose YOUR team?

I go to the University of Florida.

The football program had a down year last year with losing a large chunk from the defensive side of the ball that anchored our national title run as Urban Meyer was adjusting to new players and a quarterback who is built for a pro style offense. We also had a running game disappear as you can't expect your mobile quarterback, no matter how good he is to have to carry the ball twenty times a game.

The defense looks much improved in the spring as the freshman and sophomores become sophomores and juniors. However, they are still major question marks in the secondary as freshman come in and some of last year's starters are making position changes.

Based on what I see, I predict a one or two loss season where we make it to a BCS bowl as an at-large invite because I see Georgia as the SEC East representative in the conference championship game. I'm not as optimistic as many members of the Gator nation fanbase are when it comes to next season's results.

Florida eh? Ahhh, I remember some game about a decade ago when Nebraska just barely beat Florida for the National Championship...

...all ribbing aside, I would have to say Georgia would be the front runner for number one and may even come into the season number one. In my opinion, they probably should have been playing for the National Championship because I feel they were definitely better than Ohio State, and probably even better than LSU.

As far as my team goes, well, I know Nebraska will have a better record than they did last season. The question everyone wants to know is, how much better? I don't think anyone can really answer that until we see what they do on the field in actual games. My prediction is probably 8-4 with a bowl appearance.

...ahhhhh, I wish it was September.

I remember that game well. Spurrier had to make some changes to his Fun N' Gun like keeping a running back in the backfield with the quarterback to defend against aggressive pass rushes. I know they also changed the defensive line gap system because Lawrence Phillips and the 'Huskers tore them a new one that game.

I actually think Bo will do well in the Big 12. He ran an very aggressive scheme in the SEC, often allowing members of his secondary to blitz, forcing corners and even safeties on man-to-man coverage. And let's just say the passing game is just making it's way to the Big 12. Wink

No kidding about the passing game! It has just exploded; especially last season.

As far as Bo's defense goes, I would have to agree with you. He has done well everywhere he has gone, and I don't think NU will be any different (keep in mind, he was here as DC in 2003). I think the D will do good next season. Not sensational. Not horrible. But good. Since Billy C was primarily recruiting to make the transition from a power running game to WCO, that's where most of his recruiting was focused.

NU's D-line this season is questionable, the LB corps is more than questionable, and the secondary should be okay. It seems that some hustle has been put into these athletes though, and with a new scheme, hopefully they can pull off an average defense.
