basically i want your opinions on this video, do you think the future looks great, what are the pros and cons etc...
I had an idea come to mind when watching this video clip but I will discuss it further later on. I dont think it is near future as it says in the videos title. I think it is a far and remotely possible future.
I've read about some of this stuff in magazines like Pop-Sci. The stuff they have in development is pretty amazing, and this video doesn't seem too far fetched to me. Unfortunately the stuff about privacy and insurance sounds depressingly realistic as well.
Michiu Kaku is a pretty cool guy. I've read one of his books (though I can't think of the title right now) and I love the way he can break down complicated science into something understandable by someone without a scientific education.
Lessee... fifty years from now I'll be 83 years old. It'd be nice to think that with those kind of breakthroughs I could live to see 150. Assuming I could afford the insurance premiums, of course.
this is why I sorta started this thread, not about if we get flying cars but the insurance issue, will the future be so "big brother" oriantated, it seemed so wrong to live in a world where you cant take a piss without worying about the police, but is that future so bad, can anyone see any benefits for the lack of freedom, apart from what was shown in the video i.e ambulance reaction will be fast etc..

This doesn't actually seem that far off. If you think of the way science has developed its rather amazing. It took 1000's of years to develop metal casting, 100's of years to invent the mow and arrow, decades to invent the nuclear bomb, and a new iPod is being released every year. Pretty soon the world is going to be moving a bit to fast for us.
Flarkis: Are you suggesting that an iPod is the latest weapon of mass destruction? Yo could just be right!
Breakthroughs of the order of magnitude of the nuclear bomb are not coming as thick and fast as you might think. An ipod might be pretty amazing but its just making existing technologies smaller/faster/cheaper. Not like nanotechnology, or AI, or faster -than-light travel etc.
I'm still waiting for the hover cars that were promised to be in mass production by 2000... And where's my personal jet pack?
In short, projections on future technology are simply bunk 
This is all if we're all still around in fifty years.

I'm not trying to be the guy that freaks out about old predictions, but the Myan's were a rather advanced race. The calender they had was better than the one we use, being they didn't have to have a leap year or anything along those lines. I believe this is because their calender was based of the luner cycles and not the sun.
The Myans prediction was that in the year 2000, which on our calender will be 2012, that the world will end. This is because during this year, December 12th I think, the Earth was supposedly going to be inline with the 13th Zodiac in the center of the universe, which was going to cause mass amounts of damage to it.
I'm not sure if I nessisarily believe this, but:
a) I'm not going to rule it out as a possiblilty, due to the Myan's being so advanced. and
b) I think this is a pretty neat topic to talk about.
You can see that american's made it, the health care bit, that's definatly NOT england, or France. Everything is free there. Health care atleast (or almost free)

first of all can i say, thank you very much for posting the link to this video, i thought it was fascinating.
and also i can't wait till 50 years time as i should still be alive!
I think this system could only be beneficial and would save so many lives but at the same time i think about the environment and how global warming is such an issue now that in 50 years time we wont have the resources to make these sorts of things. but i guess at the same time, we will be so much more technologically advanced and we may find different resources and more eco-friendly ways of doing this sort of thing!

The Technology is this stage is facinating. If this is possible in the decates it would be super.
Otherwise i must admit like a few people say that this technology level is a very advanced state and it will not be very soon when this will happen.
That Big Brother can see in our heads will be very possible. If i say pro than is just for the advanced technology, but against that officials can see what is in frige and such things. I want my privacy.
