Adobe Photoshop Background Tutorial - For Beginners!

Ghost Rider103
Here is a very easy to follow tutorial on how to make a basic background, and covering some of the filters, and how to use them. This is meant for new Photoshop users to get the feel for the filters.

This tutorial is 100% written by me as well.

Step 1: Firstly, create a new document and use any size you want. I used 330x125 px. Choose two colors that you want. (Foreground, and Background). Then do Filter>Render>Clouds You should then get something like this:

Step 2: Next, we are going to give it a plastic wrap. Filter>Artistic>Plastic Wrap. You may use whatever setting you want here.

Step 3: Next, we are ging to give it a wave. Filter>Distort>Wave. These settings can get a very wide variety, can can do many different things, so I am going to give you what I used. Number of Generator, 5. Wavelength Min, 29, Max 455. Amplitude min 34, 22 max. Leave the scales, and everything else the same.

Step 4: Apply chrome effect. Filter>Sketch>Chrome.

Step 5: Duplicate the layer (Ctrl+J), and set the layer mode to Color Dodge

Step 6: While still on your duplicated layer, add another plastic wrap. Filter>Artistic>Plastic Wrap.

Step 7: This step is really optional, but I sphearized the duplicated layer. Filter>Distort>Sphearize. I used the default settings.

Step 8: We are just about done, all we need to do now is add some color. I added a curves, and playes around with the Red, Green, and Blue settings. I then added a gradient map of Orange and purple. Did curves one more time and played around with the colors, and this is my final outcome:

That's it!
This tutorial was meant for new users to get more of a feel for a couple of the filters, so I tried to explain it out as much as I could. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Very nice, Ghost Rider103.

sana618: you can host the image on your website and post the link here.
Ghost Rider103
Thanks for the comments.

As for the layer mode, depending on what colors you use, and how light or dark it is, the layer mode will look better in different modes.

You can just go to www.imageshack.us and upload it there and give us a link.

Once again, thanks.
sana618
thank you Ghost Rider103, here it is then.....

Faraz i don't have a website of my own.....

Hey you got a very interesting effect there. Almost looks like water. With some tweaking and some lighting effects you could have yourself a real looking image of water.

Good job, glad I could help out!
sana618
thank you, i'll try it and if it comes ok, i'll post that image too. though i always mess up with the lighting effect, i'll still try.
Ghost Rider103

Good job, looks very nice. The color doesn't look much like water, but the render of it does.

Either way still looks pretty cool.

Good job.
