Problems with Dynamic URLs

georgekalathil
Hi friends,
I designed a new site for my client using Joomla. The site is 100% dynamic one. but the problem is the the URLs of my site is also showing like dynamic URLs. for eg. http://www.sitename.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=38&Itemid=55&pid=55.
This looks some thing odd. Will this create problems in getting idnexed in major search engines. Is there any option in Joomla to convert this dynamic URL into a SEO friendly URL. If so please explain and help me out ASAP.

Such URLs are so bad... I'm sorry I don't know anything about Joomla. I hope that somebody's going to post a tutorial here for you to fix it. Sad

These will do the needful for you - http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,listcats/cat_id,1803/Itemid,35/

The funny thing is, the URL of the list of Search Engine Friendly URLs plugins isn't friendly. Smile

very true, search engine friendly url are supposed to have good content in them too! if the content is on cars, and the url reads /cat_id,1803/Itemid,35/ thats is not really Search Engine Friendly...

however this should help... http://www.joomlaseo.net/Joomla/SEO/SEF-Search-Engine-Friendly.html

I don't know if it would be a fair comparison.. The first is at the official Joomla site, and the latter is a site especialized in that topic.

Hi georgekalathil,

Just log in to your site's administrator area (http://www.your-Joomla-site.com/administrator/) next goto Global Configuration under Site menu you will see SEO Settings area (at right column of this page) look at Search Engine Friendly URLs it was checked No by default just change it by check Yes after that click Save and that all done.

Hope this useful.

^the-guide, if there is a built in option that does that, why the heck isn't it enabled by default? Confused
the-guide
You can enable it at first time installation if not you have to adjust it later, sorry that I really don't know why not Joomla! enable it by default, may be it cause some trouble to some server (but I really don't know exactly why?).

Drupal asks if the user want clearn URLs during its installation. Smile
the-guide
That right, and it's seem that operating Drupal is easier and faster than the complicated-Joomla, however Joomla has a lot more useful functions than Drupal.

^I have never tried Joomla for managing content... but I don't like sites made with it because of their slow, ugly design. I believe that people can customize them, but I've visited some that simply don't do it. Sad

I think you can have a great design using joomla. It's just depends on your templating and designing skills. I have my site built with Joomla. Its link is www.edzofcit.com.
