Warning: This is an old version. Only use it if for some reason you can't install the newer drupal version.

uploading
first download the tar.gz file from http://drupal.org/drupal-5.7
you can upload the whole tar.gz file and upload it to your website root
then go to direct admin
open the file manager and go to the tar.gz file
there press extract and in the form put the place where you want to extract it. (Note that in the file everything is put in a 'drupal-5.7' folder)
If you want to you can rename the folder in direct admin (I renamed it to drupal)
you can now delete the tar.gz file, but it might be safe to keep it till after the installation in case something goes wrong. Don't forget to delete it after the installation because it takes up usefull space.
installation
go to http://you.frih.net/drupal (or if you named your folder something else go there)
you will be redirected to http://www.you.frih.net/drupal/install.php?profile=default
in ftp or directadmin chown 777 /sites/default/settings.php
in direct admin make a new database if you don't want to use an already existing one(mysql management->Create new Database)
if you want to install drupal in a database which you share or want to share with other applications use a prefix in the advanced features. (I'd suggest 'drupal_').
the other advanced features aren't needed
after enterning the username, password and name press 'save configuration'
in ftp or directadmin chown 644 /sites/default/settings.php
you installed drupal
you can now follow the instructions which will be visible on your homepage.
these instructions will dissapear after you created your first story
