I was searching for these two for some weeks but just now I came to know about this great website. Please have a look at this site and read the text in full and try to understand. If you are in doubt, please get back to me for clearance. Atleast I can direct you to the right person.

The Brahma Sutras
This is considered as one of the foundation stone of Indian philosophy.

I thought it was the American natives at first -
"When will the white man learn that you can not eat money!" - a great saying!

My message is that the US Indians probably was the most developed civilisation ever on this planet.

And the white man learned the indian to take a scalp! Thats a fact!

I think the OP is about Indian Indians...you know, 'real' Indians. Also, I have to disagree that [Native American] Indians were the most developed civilization at the time; I would even go so far as to call them one of the most backward.

Most every civilization has had its' golden age some way or another, be it Enlightenment, Renaissance, Golden Age, etc. I have heard of nothing like this come from the Native Americans.

But according to the Mormons the native Americans were 'white', weren't they?

Personally, I prefer "The Synthesis of Yoga" and "Savitri" by Sri Aurobindo, but if you want to start with the classics you'll probably want "The Bhagavad Gita" and "The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali".

Exactly what I say - it is a Mormon belief that Jesus came to the US and that the first Native Americans were white.

Ok first of all i lived for a while in Canada and it is EXTREMELY offensives to call them Indians. What i was taught was that they wish to be called first nations (because they were the first ones here).

On the second point Bikerman said. Yes it is a mormon belief that there skin was not "red" to begin with. The fact that it was white is preposterous, the first nations according to Mormon belief is the lost 12th tribe of israel (i think it was 12th someone can correct me if I'm wrong). It is believed that the tribe came here, witnessed the second coming of Jesus, than had their skin turned red for their sins. I will point out that hypothetically if the Mormons are right than the first nations were originally from israel, and with my very basic knowledge of demographics. People from israel are not white.

ANYWAYS on the real topic

I my self am a Buddhist and i find that Indian philosophy tends to be very helpful when combating against the temptations and struggles of the western world.

Hope that helped,
Markus

White is a generic term - like black. There may be some objections to the term, but I don't believe it to be politically incorrect. If you want to be strictly accurate then, yes, light-olive coloured complexion would probably be closer - nobody (not even albinos) are really white - I think that is understood.

PS - Of course the Mormons are not right - a ridiculous idea.

This is one of the finest books I have ever read on the Gita: "Teaching of the Bhagavad-gita (Hardcover)(http://www.amazon.com/Teaching-Bhagavad-gita-Swami-Dayananda/dp/817094032X)".

The author appeals to a logical mind in this book. He places the reader in the same mindset as Arjuna and then takes you on a journey that Arjuna takes as he assimilates the teaching of Lord Krishna.

It is very thought provoking as you are thinking like Arjuna did and ask the same questions that he asks and you get your answers along the way.

A very interesting approach to teaching such a beautiful subject.

Indian, American, Asian, Pakistani, Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Atheist, Scientist, Devotee, Follower, Leader... Everything is nothing, but the MIND !

We are making divisions and living in that !

Study, meditate, serve and realize. Do that in the way you like most and let others do the same... Why waste time in endless discussions...
