arquivo
The olympic games are coming, everybody knows, what i dont know is: would you like be there watching... for yes, what kind of sports would be and why???
In my case, would be great see that bike competition, speed bikers on a circle track..do you know? i think that sport explode in energy and that energy should come to the people watching...
But I live in Brazil, too far from china and the television will feel the "energy" more than me...hehe
teko
would like to see all the sports, maybe the 100 metres final would be something spectacular to watch. After that the opening ceremony and closing cermony should be pretty amazing to watch Iīd say
Liu
Gymnastics and Diving are two events I enjoy watching most.

I've never watched the Olympics in my life. And I probably won't again this year.
hofodomo01
Yeah, I was really excited to be able to see the olympics in my home town. Then I realized. I have no money.

yes, indeed it is a spirit to run for the ultimate edge of the human body. It is the fight against the nature, but not human beings themselves, so that it may symbolize the spirite of freedom and peace.

A most exciting game that I would like to watch is the basketball, lol, God knows whether the USA team will be beaten for another time Smile
Psycho_X52
I don't think Olympic sports are exciting to watch (for a large number of people)...specially when their country isn't qualified.
Olympic games are, how cloudship said, "a spirit to run for the ultimate edge of the human body", not a show for the audience (like wrestling Boo hoo! )
If you know the feeling when you run 100m, when the eyes of the world are upon you, then you could say all Olympic games are exciting Very Happy

I think I'll be watching gymnastics.... and long jump Smile

[edit]
I wanted to post some pictures, but they aren't quite..... funny, so here's a link for who wants to see
http://tutu.ro/node/5 (it's related to the Olympics)

Yea they're fun. And to be more precise, they're taking place in Beijing. Razz

Anyway, I'll just watch them on television. My favorites are gymnastics and soccer.

I think it is horrible that a country like China should even be allowed to host the Olympics. Its ridicules, and I definitely won't be watching. Not that I ever usually do well except the wrestling and gymnastics sometimes, but whatever.

Really? Why? So China might have some problems, so they aren't as well off as the rest of the world but just because they're less off doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to host the games. Really, its no worse then the US, or any other country hosting the games.

PRC has changed a lot since its inception of communism. Nowadays, it's more of a consumer-driven culture with barely any communist influences. Since the Tiananmen massacre, the Chinese government has (thankfully!) learned to be more careful. Sure there is poverty in China, but look around in the US or whatever your country of residence is. There's poor people there too. On the whole, Chinese people are very very modernized. The only differences between a Chinese city and an American city are more Chinese people and more Chinese words.

I think that many people have an unreasonable fear for socialism. This probably goes back to the days of the Cold War, when everything from the Soviet Union was hated (including socialism!) and thought of as possible competition. Not every nation participating is a democracy. Britain has a royal family and we let them participate in the Olympics!

Keep an open mind and enjoy the Olympics for what they are. Smile

Only thing that would really interest me would be the track and field events. The 100m finals is a must see !! lol
ankitdatashn
Well As for the first query, well I won't be there to watch the olympics in China as it would cost to much to go there and also it would be difficult to converse with the chinese men out there. Also we have never felt an urge to go and watch any sports event in any place.

Now as per watching the games is concerned, I would have loved to watch the Indian hockey team(let me tell you I'm an Indian) in the olympic, but alas our team has not even qualified for the olympics, It has been first time in history that our team has not qualified for it although hockey is our national game!!

Though I would watch casually if there are any motorsports game on television, may I know from others that are there any motorsports events in olympics??, also would love to watch those swimming stunts, I mean diving ones, and India has some presence in shooting and weightlifting so will think about watching that too!!
hofodomo01
I remember from watching the olympics when i was small, that the track (mostly running parts of it) and competitive swimming events were the most fun for me
eday2010
Personally, I find the Olympics rather dull. And the fact that China is hosting them makes them a joke. How a country with it's horrid record on human rights abuses and population supression gets to host games celebrating peace and freedom is beyond me.
Terracarnus
China has more prisoners than the rest of the world put together, according to some sources.
In addition to this, the Chinese governments total control of the media, oppression of human rights and brutality towards dissidents is quite well documented and in a good number of cases irrefutable.

Add in the mix a truly atrocious record on environmental issues (smog in Beijing and other cities, the condition of the Yangtze river), and you have a country that in many ways is the exact opposite of everything the Olympics is supposed to stand for.

Which begs the question why was such a notorious and oppressive country given this honour?

I'm not even going to begin on discussing how they are currently dealing with the Tibetan uprising.

A lot of people say that China isn't a democracy and shouldn't compete, but tbh, political structure isn't the problem, more the Orwellian oppression that is often demonstrated by the Chinese government. It certainly has improved since Tiananmen Square, but not nearly enough.

And loryl, I think you are confusing a Republic with democracy? We may have a Royal Family, but they are essentially powerless. The people who truly have the power is the House of Commons, who are elected democratically. As such we are a democracy, but a monarchy over a republc.

Back on topic...
I'm sure I'll watch cyclism, 100 metres (and all that kind of competition), football and basketball.
I find gymnastics pretty boring, but that's just me.
tony
My favourite is certainly those related to cycling, swimming, and running. I list my favourite favourite in the end; do you see?! Haha - yes running is it. Because I also participate in such activity. For running I find good. Please excuse my English I do feel I am missing some phrases correctly.

I've never watched the Olympics before, but I sort of still want to go to China for the games because the atmosphere should make it fun!

Everytime i check out some of the biggest int'l press who do coverage abt China related to the olympic games, i get more pissed off.

China is note quite a role-model when it comes to human rights or environment protection. However most countries in the west are just as bad, or even worse.
The blaming finger is in most cases unreasonble if you see, these countries started or supported unjustified wars themselves for instance. Although there is a lot to improve, China is making progress, and it takes time changes like that are implemented into society.

It's pissing me off even more, that people start to talk about boycot of the games or China alltogether. The focus for news coverage about China from the recent past was all about the booming economy, social structure, arts and so on. Why did no one talked about boycot when it comes to economic actions?

Ow and on topic: i am not gonna watch any games...
tyto
I wouldn't go to the olympic only when china stops invating tibet...

For Everybody Here

Its coming a lot of politic here...
I think everybody is free to talk what want and thats the way... but the target of this topic is only that guy whos live for sport, love it and just think on it... doesnt matter what country is, they want to run, jump, play that moment... Is about that energy what this topic talk about...
I like when the mind opens new ways, but lets try to keep the target here...
For the other problems behind china, tibet and politic feel free to open your own topic, ok?

Because the "problems" they have can be solved by the Chinese government. It's all about respecting human rights, which is not the case at the moment, freedom of speech and press are a joke there, they execute people for fraud, etc. Yes, it is worse than the U.S.
sheedatali
Ok I do agree with what has been said above regarding China abusing rights of freedom of speech etc. However I think Olympics should be used in a +ve way, the event itself stands for something and I think that certain people are misusing the opportunity. Having said that, I would march with people for the Tibten Cause.

I want to see kongfu in the Beijing Olympic Games.....
But,it won't be there......
I love my country.

I think Chinese people merit these games but Tibet is a complex problem that need urgently a solution

I recall my parents buying our first color TV (Sony trinitron, 12 inch screen, wooden housing, remote control (with a cable!), weighing about 284 pounds) for the 72 Olympics. since then, I have closely followed each and every Olympic and will root for any sportsman (or -woman) in any sport (except greek-roman wrestling and water ballet Smile ).

P.S. A political discussion on the Beijing games can be found here.
zjosie729
I want to be there with all the excitement and such but to really watch it... it'd probably be better on tv since you get closeups. I never thought about what sports I like watching for the Olympics.. I guess I just caught what was best on tv when I wanted to watch something.
karysky
I don't know if it has been accepted yet as a demo sport, but I'd really love to see some martial arts!
