One can learn something from anybody. Let's keep this thread as intellectual as possible. I know we have some brilliant minds on here. I'll go first:
Suffering is caused by desire. When that desire goes unfulfilled, one becomes depressed and lacks comfort.
Comfort seeking is the root of laziness. Fear of failure is what prevents him from accomplishing.
Failure is defined by the individual's desires. Depression can be overcome by being productive.

Nah...the lazy wouldn't be bothered to be vain - too much trouble. I once entered a national lazy competition - I lost because I turned up.....

i took second place because i was too lazy to sign up for the competition.
The guy who beat me won because, unlike me, he was too lazy to check the results. He probably still doesn't know he's the winner.
Not that it would do him any good anyway, because the prize would be presented by last year's winner... when and if he can be bothered to get around to it. i wouldn't hold my breath.
When endangered, there is little time for thinking. Prepare your mind beforehand.

Don't let your id get ahead of your ego.
Do not associate with spontaneous people that will distract you from your work with their unannounced schedules for you which they don't tell you about until the last minute. You need to learn to put your foot down and tell them, "This is my dedicated time for work, no exceptions." The exception of coarse is if this such person is your business partner. If you cannot get away from this spontaneous person, interestingly enough, I've found that by associating with them anything business related, they tend to hold more respect for you and will leave you alone at work time. I think the reason is because you make them feel like you have a productive place in their own schedule.
I hope I'm not barking up the wrong tree.

Uh, isn't the need for comfort the root ofa dvancment? You don't wanna light a fire with two point sticks, you wanna be comfortable and invent lightning, catch my drift? And there is also something called "fear of success", which is just as because youre good and yet you fail because of your own self.
On another note:
Each second that passes is one second closer to death. Use it wisely.
Yes and no.
When one is in comfort-seeking mode,
one searches either for the easy fix which doesn't last or the proper fix which requires the effort of a thoroghal(even a word?) search and solution.
If one fears the proper fix is too hard (fear of failure), they will actually settle for the comfort provided by the temporary fix from a lack of self-confidence on their part i.e. giving up. Even if they don't succeed, if they never settle for vanity, they haven't lost. Otherwise this emptiness is the very influence which keeps the mind ticking. Without problems or needs, thinking would be of no value.
However, when in comfort-seeking mode, one has a reason to think.
And of coarse with more thoughts processing on how to properly fill their emptiness,
we have the birth of inventions. Yet in order to actually be successful in properly filling their emptiness, one needs to put in the effort of overcoming the natural tendency of being lazy. Not to think that comfort-seeking is the root of advancement, since lingering behind is easier. Comfort-seeking puts one on the battlefield, one needs to still go through the effort of battling out the problem lest they be engulfed by lack of comfort.
Thus the cause behind the ones that are lazy is:
1)being confronted with the problem in the first place that puts them into comfort-seeking mode
2)settling with the temporary fix - comfort in vanity
The ones that have succeeded on the other hand were also presented with the same battle yet they didn't give up and settle with vain comfort until they acquired the proper fix. Winning the war on the other hand, being successful, is a matter of applying the proper military tactics to one's personal situation. If you win the war over the land and the amount of casualties lost is worse than surrendering, you have succeeded in one problem and created a bigger one. There are many ways to win a war and several books on the topic of success. Regardless how you fight the war, you simply need to keep up with your problems.
