=/ Not really news. Fairly evident this is the way it would turn out for a while now. Putin is still in charge pretty much.
I agree that democracy is not strong in Russia at this point. On the other hand, people did get to vote for or against the new president, and they periodically get to vote for members of parliament also. Although Russia could become extremely authoritarian, I think there is a reasonable chance that they will become a more open and democratic society in the future.
Neither Yeltsin nor Putin has been a great proponent of open government. Nevertheless they were willing to persue a path of much greater openness than what preceded them. I hope Putin and his successor will see it as in their interest and in Russia's interest to increase the level of democracy.

Yeah, everybody who knows Russian mentality knows that most of Russians are unable to understand democracy. They were supressed for so long and people who had the power are having it now again. I think there is no way out of it for Russia.

Preved Medved!It is a clone attack:).If you close your eyes you cannot understand who is talking Medvedev or Putin they are both ex-KGB spies and support one each other.Looks like still Putin rules and Medvedev is only an official president.
