STEAM - Love IT or Hate IT?
As you can see, I am taking a poll of whether everyone in this world LOVES or HATES: STEAM. Having little knowledge of it, I can only give you my story of why I am not too fond of the program or their ways of thinking. Maybe someone can help
First, STEAM is a crazy program that allows for the downloading and playing of games over the internet. They also do a lot of other crazy crap, but that is all I really want to write about. If you are new to STEAM, look it up and learn at

My story is as follows. . . On Black Friday, being a huge fan of crazy deals, I bought Orange Box for $25, which was a crazy deal as I could have just as well sold it for $40 on EBAY the next day. It came with five of the top rated computer games of every magazine and review I have ever read: Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2 Episode 1, Half-Life 2 Episode 2, Team Fortress 2, and Portal. I get the game home, but I had crap to do so I did not get a chance to install it or play it. A few days later, after finally getting life out of the way, I installed the game and found that I was required to install STEAM to play, ok, that should be easy enough. I install it, but it says I need to update. My hopes and dreams, the ones I created four minutes before installing the game, had been crushed; I am on dialup connecting at 28.8 with a download speed of around 1.2kbps. Ok, STEAM and VALVE, the creators of the Orange Box, would never be so mean to not think about the millions with dialup, would they? I connect, STEAM pops up, starts downloading. About 10 minutes through, I hit 3%; this was going to be a long night. I waited, and waited, and waited, until about 28% when all of the sudden, it closed. NOOOOO, all the time wasted, I would have to restart. So I did, but not to worry, it started at 26%, phew. It hit 31% and did it again. My four minute dream before became an 8 hour pain in the behind.
What am I supposed to do at this moment? Wait a few days and try again. It did it again, and again, then it downloaded a little more, then it stalled again. I downloaded STEAM about 8 times all of which were different. But why would I even need STEAM to play the game? Apparently, correct me if I am wrong, STEAM downloads a small part of the game to make it work to keep everything legal and such. My heart, well, my mind sank as I just realized I would never get to play 3 of the greatest games ever made. I only wanted to play Half-Life 2, which is not online, but no, I still have to download.
A few months later, I find myself writing this thread about a game that is sitting in the corner of my desk, mocking my every move; well, it isn’t really, and most would understand that it is a metaphor, but I have to speak out for the “others” out there. So, is there something I can do? ANYTHING? All I can really say is that if you are getting a game by VALVE, with STEAM, make sure you internet can at least download the files.

I have used Steam for Counter Strike. I suppose that Steam does make everything legal, but if you own the discs then you should be able to install it from the discs itself. Anyways, instead of posting here you can get better support at steampowered.com under Support.
They will be able to give you better support than anybody at Frihost, unless they've beta tested Steam, no offence guys.
I hope you can get your issues fixed.

The more I think about it, the more I see how ignorant I am of things. Sadly, I never thought of actually contacting STEAM. Well enough. . . I will do it right now! Thank you for the advice.
Stems in its website says:
Dont Buy at Ebay!
i'd like steam.

Steam could be better, but it appears to be intrinsically bloated. The update news are so annoying. It takes a long to connect and load too. Better when I could play cs without it legally. However it does have its advantages, like the easiness to pruchase things and, when you want, some news about the market.
