Lawyers for the victims of an alleged Israeli war criminal criticised British police today for allowing him to slip through the net.
Major-General Doron Almog avoided arrest in September 2005 after he was tipped off that officers planned to detain him on landing at Heathrow airport.
He refused to leave his El Al flight, and remained on board for two hours before returning to Israel. |

yea, I know about this story.
Can't believe the British police can have double standards.
if the guy in the plane was from some Arab nation, the Police would not have hesitated to go into that plane (whether the people inside were armed or not).
I disagree. When you have a plane full of people and some may be armed the last thing you want to risk is innocent people getting shot if a confrontation did happen. You people only make things worse with your partisan BS. You are part of the reason why the Palestine/Israel conflict will never end. You won't let it end, and both sides will never be happy, and both sides can't seem to come to the realization that you're both human, and fighting won't solve anything.
I hate it. It's all based on revenge, and oh they did this to us so lets do this to them. Sometimes I don't even know why leaders try to make Peace over there. Apparently both sides enjoy fighting, and enjoy having their family members and friends killed.
But what do I know, I am a stupid American.
Have you heard about Israel's latest anti-Palestine, UN-manipulating stunt is? Or has FOX scratched that off their broadcasting schedule?

WTF?? So it is perfectly okay to kill an innocent man (Jean Charles de Menzies), but it is wrong to bring a man guilty of war crimes to justice?
We are living in nations in which security is at their highest. If it was an Arab sitting in that plane, the British authorities would not hesitate in entering the plane. They thought de Menzies was an Arab, and shot him 7 times, 5 in the head and 1 on shoulder and 1 in neck.

Yea, like you have your hands clean. The stains of blood are on the hands of Europe and America. Just because Europe wanted to kick the Jews out of their countries and America refused the burden, doesn't mean the Arab world had to pay the price for what was a crime in Europe.

If the Germans took over England tomorrow, every English citizen has a right to resist occupation of their territory. It is their country. It is their right to resist. The Palestinians are no less of a people than the English. Their blood and their lives are equally as sacred as ours. And we must apply to same standard to the Palestinians, as what we would apply to our ownselves.

And yes you are a stupid American. Your tax money is feeding the state of terror (israel) with sums more than you give to the entire continent of africa, so Israel can violate yet more resolutions. Wake up America.

Plus the control of America's own wealth, In 2007 70% of America's billionaires were Jews. A former leader of a country once said "Jews are riding the dragon"

I agree totally....
talk about double standards.i totally agree with you ThePolemistis.and the thing is that this proves that not only are muslims terrorists like the bush deems it but jews are also terrorists.talk bout hypocrisy.
Double standards? I dunno. Maybe it was more a thing of not shooting the guy in the face in front of everyone in the plane, and then looking more murderous and stupid than when the De Menezes stuff happened.
That and, considering Doron Almog is some kind of israeli hero, it might have caused way more problems than would have been solved by packing him in a bag and throwing him in jail right away.
Jew causing trouble on a plane vs. Muslim causing trouble on a plane
...?
Jewish people haven't ever been called to a jihad (which is a scarily complex concept for most westerners), and their operations on Israel and surroundings (read as it pleases you most) are done with the consent of the Earth's hegemonic powers (at worst only by them, at best by most countries). Thus, a random muslim causing trouble in a plane is perceived by default as a much bigger issue than a random jew on the same plane. In particular considering that it's, like I said, some kind of hero for Israel.

Wow! There was no terrorist there! Here are some relevant quotes from the article:
| Quote: |
Major-General Doron Almog avoided arrest in September 2005 after he was tipped off that officers planned to detain him on landing at Heathrow airport.
He refused to leave his El Al flight, and remained on board for two hours before returning to Israel.
Leaked documents show police did not board the plane to detain him at the airport because they were worried about the dangers of an armed confrontation. |
Therefore no threats, no demands, no waving guns, no ticking bombs, no hostages...
| Quote: |
A police decisions log used by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) showed police feared a clash with armed El Al air marshals or Maj Gen Almog's security guards.
Detective Superintendent John MacBrayne, in charge of the operation, was unable to confirm whether his team had a right to board after El Al refused them entry.
He wrote: "Another consideration (was) that El Al flights carried armed air marshals, which raised issues around public safety.
"There was also no intelligence as to whether Mr Almog would have been travelling with personal security as befitted his status, armed or otherwise."
Maj Gen Almog planned to visit the UK to make social and charitable visits to Jewish communities in Manchester and Solihull. |
So the plane crew refused police entry! This indeed should be clarified: can a plane crew refuse entry to police officers looking for suspects?
| Quote: |
| Maj Gen Almog has been accused by Palestinian campaigners of ordering the destruction of more than 50 homes in the Gaza Strip in 2002. |
If he ever killed some civilians then he is a war criminal (a kind of terrorist if you want), but as a matter of fact he is accused of destroying property! He should be punished for that but for me destruction of property comes nowhere near hurting/killing people!
| Quote: |
But news of the planned arrest was leaked to the Israeli Embassy and he was warned of the plan.
The law firm today criticised police for failing to maintain a high enough level of secrecy over the arrest warrant.
But the IPCC investigation, which concluded last summer, found no proof that officers had leaked information. |
This should be worrying for the Brits: how the Israeli embassy found out about the arrest warrant?
