Tata Motors India's largest automobile company, has just launched the TATA NANO ( www.tatanano.com ), which will be the world's cheapest car with a dealer price of 100000 rupees ... ( or Approx. USD 2,500 ).

I think it's pretty cool.
http://tatanano.inservices.tatamotors.com/tatamotors/
They have a slogan contest going for people living in India to win an ipod.
Its very good then what all had expected.I think there will be huge demand for it in India.Soon some organizations have started protesting against it that after the car reaches in the habds of people there will be hi\uge problem of parking space. So some are against the car.
I really feel proude of Ratan Tata for bringing such a car in market ,All families have a dream that to have their own car. There is no doubt that Nano will fulfill this dream. Many families in my neighbourhood have booked the car.The car has been tested through all security standards and i dont think any reason will be there for the crash of the car's market.
Well the car looks kinda cute. Have personally seen d car in Auto Expo. Really doubt about its performance but if this car comes into market then there will be a major problem of traffic jams. Traffic jams here in big cities was bad enough, but its gonna get worse. Plus there will be more wastage of precious fuel
omg ! when i was a baby.. my tricycle had tires bigger than this car !!!

to be honest, its the management and not the car. if u r so much into this... you guys should form a group and ask the government to encourage the use of CNG vehicles and not petrol/diesel ones. may be less tax on this CNG fitted vehicles or other less polluting vehicles that runs on natural gases or watever

Yeah the tires of this car are kinda tiny. Dosent seem 2 b a sturdy car. Moreover have heard that the body is made of plastic. Doubt how long this thing is gonna last in d road
I could just imagine how well that car would stand up here in the United States against a Hummer or a tractor/trailer or even a Ford Focus for that matter. OUCH! splat!
That cost is super, car for 2,500USD for young driver is good
I'd be impressed if it weren't possible to get a perfectly good used car for less than $2500 (at least in the 'States).

Well used cars are always cheap for that matter. But here we r talking about new cars. BTW wats the cheapest car there in US and wats d price?

What you have to remember is that this wasnt built for the united states market - it was built for india and other countries that dont nessecarily have an abundance of used cars. The idea of this is to appeal to people who wouldnt otherwise be able to buy or maintain bigger car.
Its not about being able to turn around and say "my car is bigger than yours, therefore i will come out better off when I ram a truck thats bigger than anything else on the road".
Its about being able to say "I am now able to afford a vehicle that will enable me to get myself and my family to work/school/wherever in relative comfort and safety."

The cheapest car in the US *I think* is the Hyundai Accent, which starts at $10775, but there are other cars in that price range (Chevy Aveo, Kia Rio, Toyota Yaris).
In 2001 or so I paid $10750 for a 1996 Integra GS-R, and a few months ago I bought a 1990 Legacy L AWD wagon for $900. I'd rather buy an old Civic or Corolla for $2500 than a new car so crappy it only costs $2500, but that's just me. Maybe like Andrew426 says you can't find good deals on decent used cars in India.
Who said you can't find good used cars in India? In cities like Mumbai and Delhi, you will find hundreds of used car showrooms where you find great in condition cars and for almost $2000 you will get a good Maruti Esteem.
But many families have this thing about buying a new car for their first time and would prefer to go in for a Nano even if it of less power.
By the way, how much would a second hand Hummer cost in the US?
India too has a market for used cars.. and it seems to be flourishing...
But here due to traffic jams, better maneuverability and better fuel economy people seem to prefer smaller cars to sedans. But from my experience these cars are usually not that long lasting (runs perfectly for abt 5yrs) then u gotta switch 2 a new car. And its usually not a really good idea to go for used cars in d small car segment.
The used car market for sedans and expensive cars seems to be better though
This car (if can be named a car) cannot be brought to Europe because the safety is sub-zero. And i don`t think that either the performance or the confort is so great. So i will give a bad grade toi this one.
The design brief was to create an affordable car that can be considered an alternative to motorcycles because despite this cars lack of safety features/durability and what have you, anything is safer than a motorbike and more comfortable. The manufacturers aren't trying to sell a top quality auto mobile, they're trying to make an accessible one.

I completely agree with u. Moreover what more can u expect in this under priced car
ohhh my god.... Nano is a curse to delhi............. its gonna make delhi even more worse........ i woorry about its launch.........god save delhi
Also if you are interested in bikes i would suggest that you can go in for royal enfield 500 cc . It is a very good bike and it will cost you around Rs 1,00,000 only . It is a very good mode for tranportation and also you will enjoy it riding . There is also an option of 350 cc royal enfield which will cost you around Rs 85,000 .
I think that car's a great idea and wish more companies would take risks trying new ideas.
Do you know what the gas mileage is like on that car?
It looks exactly like a car with a 'made in India' sticker should look!
Anyway, kudos to them for making a car that is perfect for the Indian market.
What do you mean Ocalhoun? It looks more like a Japanese or Korean Car. What a racist comment you made. India's technology is today much more superior than anyone else's.

It certainly looks very little like most Japanese cars, does it look like a Korean car?
I guess it could pass for one of those, too.
But my point was that if you asked me what an Indian car would look like, I would be more likely to think of something like
than something like

Hyundai Accent is considered an entry level luxury car model here - midrange at the very least.
Besides, how much do you think this car will cost if you buy it preowned ?
| Afaceinthematrix wrote: |

It's stated to be more than 20 km/litre or 70 miles/gallon.
And I think those are pessimistic estimates, seeing how many current car models here already have similar figures.

Correction !
This is what an Indian car actually does look like - and that's an expensive top-of-the-line luxury model !
By the way, if someone were to ask me what an American car looks like, I'd be highly likely to think of something like this or perhaps even this.
I'm so glad someone else shares my views, lest I be dismissed as the ill informed stereotyping one here.
thanks to tata group for producing such a beautiful car. Tata group is one of the leading multinational company in the world.
that car will definitely produce a revolution. It will fulfill each and every dream.

What would you register that as? 1982 Quadroped?.
I heard in the next few years they are releasing an autostick (tiptronic) option on that - should prove a popular option for those young streetracer types....

LOL that is awesome i want to look into that one... (Tiptronic)
ratan tata has been awarded the best buisness brains award for this car and hence it would be not justified to simply reject this car as rubbish
This has to be one of the ugliest cars I have ever seen, I personally couldn't imagine myself driving one.
It also doesn't look to sturdy like the others said, and would probably wear quickly.
Also, could you imagine getting into a accident with this thing, and your entire family could about fit in it if you have two kids, that would be extremely dangerous.
What else can you buy for 2500 Usd ?
I am not interested in buying this car so I think I can spend my money much much better on ANYTHING else.
By the way, don't think this car will survive the indian roads for more than 6 months. Especialy the speedbrakers...
So the 2500 Usd spent will be 2500 Usd thrown away.

Ebay Motors: All results between $600 and $2500

Oh well u may think that a horse cart is the top of the line car in India.
But the reality is something different. Its a pity still Indians get to ride ur top of the line space shuttles. And ya one more thing if u ever get access to enter NASA just see how many Indians work there who are actually making the thing a reality which u proudly call urs.
I wonder if u ppl were so intelligent then y don't americans send only americans for ur space missions. So before u open ur big mouth the second time to say something stupid and derogatory like that just think again about what u people actually achieved not including what people from other countries did for u.
And ya one more thing u people create the most waste and waste most energy. I dont think any intelligent person who knows that the fossil fuel supplies are dwindling and environmental pollution is increasing will still be doing such thing. And u call ur country the greatest.
| ssthanapati wrote: |

It is a pity that they're still top of the line. They're getting old and unreliable, and we're talking about phasing them out, but we don't have a replacement yet.
And no, Americans ride the shuttles. Some of them may have come from India, but they are Americans now. Immigration is what makes this country great.
And d same guy that makes those Nano's Ratan Tata. He bought ur Land Rover and Jaguar. Now cars of Jaguar dont look like horse carts do they?
And if originally America did have brainy people they wouldn't need to bring people from outside would they??? Too bad the government dosen't have any other option. Too bad u need to depend on others and still have an ego filled with hot air.
And ya i almost forgot.... america is loosing jobs to India because of outsourcing.... Too bad for u ppl... but good for us... And i pity for mr bush

So you think America needs to import people with intelligence? That's ridiculous. If you are offended by anyone else's insensitivity, why do you think it's appropriate for you to generalize and say bigoted things about other nations?

Whoa ! Hey !
Since you seem to have completely missed it in my last post (despite the gross exaggerations), maybe this article will make it more clear -

I think u should be asking that to the person who started it. Like the way if i say something bad for ur nation hurts u. Same is the case of us too. And i was more annoyed as it was being supported by the administrator himself.
BTW I can keep on going like this forever and can provide you with factual data too to prove my points. But its useless. Neways its useless to fight like this anymore. Its below my dignity. And I expect everyone to stop this and continue with what the subject was all about instead of fighting like little kids

Did you even read what I posted before ?
I know you didn't get the sarcasm in my first post (and the fact that I was making fun of the notions that certain people held), but what about when I clearly stated it ?
Ocalhoun made, what I thought, was a prejudiced statement, and I played the gag along - only in gross overstatements, to highlight what I thought was wrong.
Infact, I don't see anyone else, even the person "who started it", attacking others -

There is no reason for you to be so caustic in your response.
You just made a big deal out of absolutely nothing.
I apologise morpheus... i missed ur last post.... I accept it was a fault on my part
it is very cheap.....made for people with low income source.....they are providing wings to everybody....\\
recently tata motors also purchased Land rover and jagaur from ford......tata steel company is the 5th largest steel company in the world....it has offices in almost all sub continents......
