What's spam email you define?

the-guide
All of us cannot refuse that spam is in the eyes of the beholder.
Even I have enable spam guard but...
every time I checked my inbox, I alway found many spam emails.

Each email recipient has a different definition of spam.
For me, here are some what I see as spam:

- Emails that arrive too frequently
- Emails which nothing but all advertising or promotional messages
- Emails that are not relevant to my interests
- Emails that are not relevant to header itself
- And the obvious emails that I did not request

What's your definition of spam email? How can you cope?
HamsterMan
e-mails that are gibberish
e-mails that tries to push drugs on me
e-mails that insults my manhood
e-mails that gives me news I never wanted to know
e-mails that waste my time
e-mails that asks me to press random obscure links
e-mails that tries to sell me anything
hunnyhiteshseth
Just one definition: any mail not from my known source is spam.
rvec
any mail I do not want Razz
this can be mail from friends, viagra suppliers or any other source. If I don't want it I think my spam-filter should trash it. Problem is I still didn't find any spam-filter that could do this, but if someone finds one please pm me Smile

SPAM, Ahh that's a too hated thing, at least for me, I agree with the above person, any thing(email) that we do not want can be qualified as Spam.

Spam can be a email, posts, scraps, messages, blog postings that are targetted as the whole audience at one go without any specific targetted people, thus few can find them useful but the general public find it quite annoying.

Also SPAMS are mostly adult, obscene, promotions and chain letter kind of things that can be distributed with the help of special Spamming Softwares, Scripts or flooding tools.

The most hated thing OF SPAM for me is when they try to gain false mercy and pity for people who are non-existant, example when I receive some message which says on forwarding it XYZ company will give 1 buck for a brain patient!!, quite pathetic!

to me spam is anything I do not want.
for example...I visited a site one time to do get some info and I had to register to access it. ok fine. now every week they send me emails about their stuff.
I am a woman yet I get emails about male enhancement drugs...wtf!

hunnyhiteshseth said it best....any mail not from my known source is spam
Nameless
I'm pretty sure the technical definition is 'unsolicited commercial email'.

Yeah! it is a joke about spam-filters that not joke for me, and might be for you, in reality. Filtering softwares alway prevent the messages I need but they always allowed agitated e-mails, so I don't know what should I do, to laugh or to cry.
jsymac
I've never found a spam filter that works properly, sometimes it'll put regular emails I get into the spam folder and let through ones for Viagra and other general unwanted emails.

To me spam is anything thats mass sent for products and services you don't want and have never asked for.
whitehole
Msn does my hosting and they have a decent system in place. The mark all unusual mail and don't show pics/attachements/links unless I allow it for that particular letter. It works for me.

Spam:

1. Unsolicited advertisement emails (this includes emails from companies you're registered with that you did not opt in to receive the emails).

2. Meaningless messages (I presume they're sent to overload the system with garbage traffic).

That's pretty much all I can think of right now.
Afaceinthematrix
I define spam as any email sent by a non-human that was requested by me (so mailing lists are spam).
Aredon
Anything with a name on it i don't recognize, and anything with the letters FW: in front of it.
thebattler36
e-mails that are sent out in HUGE bulk that i have not requested or signed up for.
hlavco
For me, spam is bulk mail, and people trying to sell things or get information fro me. Often if something is in a foreign language I'll assume it's spam (though sometimes it isn't).
jylan
I define spam as anything that is sent to me when I didn't request it or was expecting it.
saratdear
For me, spam is any e-mail I did not want to or request to receive.

That makes me hate these Forwarded messages from my friends, but I can't tell them to stop it without sounding just plain rude.
salman_500
Spam......

Anything that goes into my hotmail junk folder is spam ! :p
Aless
I consider anything I didn't specifically ask to be sent to me as spam. Sometimes it's newsletter or whatever that I did in fact sign up for to get some free gift or as a prize drawing, but I'm too lazy to unsubscribe! Smile
rightclickscott
Any mail sent to me or by me is spam.

Personally that would be my definition of spam email if coupled up with "emails that I did not request".

SPAM: Stupid Pointless Annoying Messages Very Happy

Short and sweet. Smile
riv_
Unsolicited.
That's it. If I didn't in some way request email from you, you're spamming me.
soulery
Anything that I didn't want like ads or something, I call that spam.
eggg
Anything from someone I don't know, regarding something that has nothing to do with me, or regarding any kind of commercial transaction. Spam spam spam. Speaking of spam, scroll down this page to see a spam o' lantern.[/url] (The beef o' lantern's pretty nice too).
MeddlingMonk
I would consider spam as any emails from sources I don't know, or as advertising or newsletters, etc. that I have not specifically subscribed to. As a user of Gmail, I find the filter system very good - I rarely get spam in my inbox and non-spam email in the spam folder.
vineeth
Its irritating to receive 200 spam mails in 24 hours. But GMail team done a good job as almost 95% of them will go to my spam folder.

I will define spam as

- emails send to a mailing list in which my name is included without my consent, it may be jokes, promos or even some useful stuff. Still, its spam !

- The usual "enlarge your ***" stuff. Most of the time, it won't escape the spam filter

- Messages send by some unknown people, just by making a guess of an email address. I am getting so many marriage proposals, job applications and resumes to my office email

- You signed up for a free service like URL submission and these gays are selling your email to many spambots. You are getting hundreds of mails in a day. This happens all the time when I submit my website using some free url submission website

- Free offers ! How the world can offer this much for free... !

- Email send from a known sender bnut contains ads of third parties. An example is the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) which is a legal authority which I use to book my railway tickets. But they sometimes sends me emails with third party ads.

The spam story continues... Smile
skygaia
Simply, I think spam email is what I don't want to receive.
ForceRun
SPAM is just mail that I don't want, like half of what you guys said. My yahoo email gets a bunch of spam but my gmail is clean.
carlospro7
for me spam email is whatever kind of email that gets to my inbox without my direct approval and that, most of all, has stuff that is designed to "trick" me. i hate spam
secondeye
When it Comes Again and again and again with stupid Foolish Content That i dont Want to read, It Loadz all my inbox with their nonsense Content Like" you are so Beautiful, i want to friendship with you, Please add me" Etc etc etc, I hate all type of newsletter that i arrives in my mail box even i ain't join it. I dont Know from where they find our email address.. Aah I hate Spammers..
Davidgr1200
I don't need to define spam. I just delete all mail which I have not requested and does not come from someone I know
cloudship
spam email for me is just the email address from which I do not want to read the mails any more. I've subscribed very early for some newsletters on some website. And they keep sending me new letters on a regular base. Then some days after, I found myself not interested at those mails at all. Then problems come out. I would have to go to every website to unsubscribe my order or to find in the mail letter for the unsubscription links and click to them. I would rather choose all the mails and mark them as spam, so that next time the mails come, the mail client or server will automatically filter them for me. And if I want to have them back, I could easily go to the spam folder and pick them out of there. I say it is easier for me.
biljap
I was getting a lot of spam until my Internet provider finally did something to filter emails! It was very frustrating – the messages I was expecting never came to me, but there was a huge amount of spam, every day! I don’t even understand how they got my address if I didn’t use it to subscribe to some web sites…
For me, spam messages are those which are sent from completely unknown addresses, containing advertising, inviting me to some strange web sites, telling me that my email address won first prize on lottery (?!) or trying to sell me some drugs or watches. Also, those messages very often have subject lines which can’t be filtered; sometimes I get confused when I see RE: and a similar subject I wrote…
catscratches
Basically, if I get a mail and don't know why I got it or from who (or what website etc.).
flowerpower
For me, spam is any email that I don't expect to receive - unknown sender, unsolicited advertising emails (that I HATE a lot!!!!). Thanks gmail has a very good spam blocker.
