Software for School

Hi,

my school is currently thinking of using some sort of elearning platform that will be accessible throught its homepage.

The functions that such a system would need to have are:

- individual login for students and teachers
- possibility to email people through the system
- possibility to post current messages
- possibility to upload documents (i.e. homework in *.doc format, etc)
- possibility for each student to have a personal profile page (would be nice, but is not necessary)

We are currently hosting on Microsoft Windows.

Are there content management systems or other software that does that?

Many teachers in our schools use http://moodle.org/

- everyone has an account and list of subjects he study
- you can make tests, and homework and statistics of results
- but our teachers said that it is hard to setup all features

So far either Moodle or Sakai seem to be an option, both are open source.

you could also try Egroupware. I am not sure how to set it up and if you need any *nix specific functions but it sure is the best groupware software I ever used.
