e30 BMW

Anybody owned one? What do you think? I'm checking out an 87 325i this weekend. The guy has already done all the mods I would do to it, I'm just looking for a moderately practical vehicle that gets decent gas mileage that can still be driven like a maniac.

PS: the dude wants 2500, it has a fresh engine, and it needs some minor body work.

For the same price you can get a 10-year younger Integra GS-R that's probably quicker, in better condition, more reliable, and easier to find parts for. Just my 2c. That, and you should always be careful buying a car that has unmatched VINs (as in a motor-replaced vehicle).

Also, check the value on www.nada.com, www.edmunds.com and www.kbb.com before agreeing to a purchase price, and it's generally a bad idea to pay extra for modifications. They make a car harder to sell and less valuable (as well as less reliable, usually).

Never owned one, but they look like fun cars.

I suppose it depends where you are, BMW service parts are reasonably priced and if you look after them are reliable.
I've had a few E30's and E36's over the years

You do see a lot of BMW's of that era around, which is a good sign, particularly as they aren't quite common cars (except in Southern California!).

Ive always had a soft spot for e30's, was dead keen on getting one a few years ago. The problem was that before i got round to getting one they suddenly got popular over here in New Zealand and i didnt want to be like every other dude in a done up e30. I settled for an old mk5 cortina which i done up which is something you dont see much over here.
