Could it be possible that there is some truth to all religions? Defining your spirit as your personal self, and your soul as the power to your life, could it be that your spirit goes to heaven/hell while your soul goes on to power another body? This would explain reincarnation and memories of past lives, while also allowing for an afterlife. Since we have no kind of proof, Id like to know if this theory strikes curiosity or receives doubt.

there is an essential truth behind all religions. and all religions have started as a way to uncover this truth, and have become just the opposite: they have become an impenetrable wall of nonsense - it becomes very difficult to see the original truth.
the first mistake in this question is to define spirit as something belonging to us. spirit moves only when we lose this idea of ourselves, when the energy is unbound, and free to dance through all creation.
the question says: Defining your spirit as your personal self ... firstly spirit cannot be possessed. and secondly spirit is to be uncovered, as it is the movement of the divine through us. and we must be empty as a bamboo flute for the divine to play through us. so this definition is absolutely wrong. when there is personal self, spirit cannot be seen. it is like a cloudy day. the sun is there that it cannot be seen.
it would mean more sense to define spirit as the movement / impulse that emerges when this idea of a personal self is dropped.
and your soul as the power to your life... when the personal self is dropped, spirit is that which moves and soul is that which witnesses. the Hindus have a concept of Atman, Supreme soul, soul of all existence, and the soul dissolves into Atman as rivers bleed into the ocean.
heaven and hell have been created by the priest. hell is a state of mind, and heaven is a state of no mind. a more intelligent classification comes from Buddhist teaching. they teach about the realms of samsara - the different levels mind gets stuck, and nirvana - liberation from samsara. in this teaching it is made clear that these are not graphical places. but people will believe all sorts of stupid ideas...
it is in the nature of mind to twist one thing into another. and so if someone is reading about reincarnation and they are worried about death, they will start thinking that reincarnation is offering some way to cheat death. they are worried because in life they have accumulated; money, friends, family, personality, .. and they do not like the idea of losing all of this. even if something can continue, that would be some consolation.
it is life that is born again and again. and when it is born it is born pure and fresh, not clouded by any memories, personality. when we see ourselves as life manifest in form, we can see each birth is life born again.
so you have been born as a cabbage, a dolphin and a flea. as everything is born, so have you been born.
you simply have to lose the identification with the current form, and realise yourself as the energy that flows through incarnations, the melody, the Enlightenment
and beyond this, the stillness from which the energy springs.
the path is meditation. but for the modern human this does not come easily.
it is the simplest thing, simply to drop the mind.
but people have become very complicated, and find it difficult to do a simple thing.
Buddha translates as ' one who has awakened '

In my point of view, you have no soul nor a spirit. If you die, it's all over, end of story, sleep tight. However, let's for one moment, assume that there is both a spirit and a soul. Why would they be diffrent? Spirit and soul is mostly seen as the same thing and if my soul powers my body it also powers my spirit, if the soul goes to drive another body my spirit would remain powerless.
If I assume again that everything is over then I would have even more evidence.
The amount of people that says to have "memories of a past life" is so small that even if it had been a coincidence and pure luck, the amount would have been bigger. I myself stand by science and logic and there is no logic in a soul and/or a spirit as that would mean animals would also have one, but they are capable of far less (in ways of thinking etc.) then we are. Plus the fact that science has never acknowleged, it has even denied to be more precise, the existance of a soul and/or spirit.
Religions only try to explain the unexplainable of ancient times. Those times are over, we know much more now. Seeking something of truth in religion is nothing more then an illusion. However, it is an illusion that calms many people's minds I must add.
Why is this reposted? Is it some sort of Zen awakening thing?
Even if it is then please refrain from doing it - it is very annoying.
