What kind of RAM do I have?

I was told I have DDR in my new system, only 256 MB. I have 512 in my old system I thought I would put into my new system.

I think they are both 200 mHZ, but not sure, and don't know how to find out.

It doesn't work. The old works in the old, but not in the new.

How do I use software to find out more about my hardware types of memory?

MotherBoard is SIS.

Q. 2) is there a software way of getting the POST BIOS screen info?

Google CPUZ. It will tell you under the tab called Memory. It's free and you do not need to install anything.

Thanks for advice, I finally did this and found out more, but it doesn't quite make sense -- my 512 mb DDR should work, but doesn't in the new system (does in the old).

Still investigating a bit, but I'm kind of unsure what to do, so it's going really slow.

I once tried to replace ram in a old system and it didn't work, it didn't work because the timings set in the bios were to low and the DIMM couldn't handle it.

I'm trying to put my older RAM into the newer system, but suspect that timing is an issue.

How can I check this?

The cool CPUZ doesn't quite tell me everything. Is there any other good free memory hardware testing program?

May be try this http://www.memtest.org/ , it has screenshot posted so check them out before downloading.

Normally the speed is written on chip itself or on a sticker. Have you checked that ?

400 Mhz (but I'm still not sure of this, somehow).

The older motherboards that ran DDR133 could only use 512 MB, maybe that is your problem.
