Google Adsense and phpBB

Ok, like Frihost (when you are logged out) I wanted to have a few Google ads below the first post in a topic. I looked at the phpBB knowledge centre and it explains how to do this on BB2. However that's the whole point - how does Frihost achieve it so that you only see the ad's when your logged out? Is it bundled with the entirely different template or is there some code that see's that you are logged out and does not display it?

I guess that they have a function that checks if you're logged in and then it allows you to Post Replies and so on. You can use the function to check if you're logged in and then it doesn't show the ad.
