I am about to make a new site. It is for a private school. I was in doubt about wich CMS to use. I have seen godd sites in joomla and also en word press. What you recommend to me?
joomla or wordpress?
Depending on what sort of content intended to be used on the site...i presume alot of images, because it is a marketing aspect for the school.
If you are looking to build a site in terms of functionality, then Joomla is the way to go, although the templating system takes a bit of getting use to it is easy enough to put your own skin together for it.
Wordpress for this project in my absolute honest opinion would kook and feel a little too simple, but if thats what you are after then by all means that is exactly what you should use.
On a serious note. Both scripts perform their intended purposes outstandingly, but Joomla gets my vote in this case, just because its useability and functionality is its selling point [although its open source

Hope this helps you a little in your decisions.

WordPress is a blog software though u can add parts and make it a complete site. Joomla is a CMS
which is a content management software which helps you to build a website. So think Joomla is a good choice for you but little hard to learn the whole thing. If you are going to use a forum too and if the forum script is SMF then "tinyportal" is the one for you.

I've given up on massive CMSes like Joomla. For my purposes, it makes more sense to have a blog and gallery system alone and not worry about massive "kitchen sink" solutions.
Hello nisibdv,
As you are saying that the website is based on the school i would prefer to go with the award winning CMS JOOMLA. Because Wordpress is a blog (CMS) in which you dont find all the features which are in joomla. And Joomla is a large group with lot of extensions availiable daily and ofcourse updated on the older ones also. Joomla is best for you. Have fun with Joomla.

Joomla is far better. dont think and go for it. you wont regret using that stuff
Although Joomla doesn't look as good as most wordpress sites, and its css-design possibilities, are rather limited, my vote goes for Joomla, just because you are making a school site.
The one thing that Joomla offers and wordpress doesn't achieve is the user management. In Joomla you'll find very easy to make user groups like students, teachers, parents... easily, while in wordpress it would be a little more complicated.
So if you are choosing Joomla, get ready for a very long process of learning and practicing to get a decent site

If it's a "community" type of site, I would suggest you check out Drupal vs. Joomla.
Wordpress is good for blogging, but Drupal and Joomla have great community elements that are integral to their operation.

Joomla and Wordpress has their pros and cons over each other. I suggest you really look into what features you want for your site and see what suits your needs better.

I agree with Dude...!
In Joomla, you can build the blog/site as per your predictions and can be well tuned for better look. And moreover, you will have a better feel that you had better hand in making your site.
Where as in Woordpressis a blog software and more cumbersome to fix the bugs in each...!
As per me, it's better to go for Joomla for better satisfaction.
And can prefearably go for wordpress, if you can take the sample from each of the best softwares and make your own wordpress blog software. this is more easy and suitable for your requirement....!
Hope the above stuff helps you a lot....
My favorite is Joomla, it is the best that you listed. But if you want get E107. MANY plugins. MANY themes. etc.
Install em all on a /test on try them out first.

We all know that with a CMS like Joomla we can install many addons (components, modules, plugins, templates ... etc), but these components are not all free, and they can be installed with some restrictions (depend on server's platform, server 's libraries, writeable restriction, version legacy, ...), so that Joomla can be operated easier on your own server (not on a webhosting server).
And the more components installed in your Joomla, the more unstable your system works, and easier to be hacked. And as I know Joomla content management is not good as Wordpress 's one.
If you want to build a information or news portal, Wordpress is the best choice.
WOrdpress easy to use and Great free templates.. I love You WordPress
I would have to put my vote with Joomla, just because it is a full CMS to begin with. I would also suggest that you try out Drupal. That was a very nice looking CMS also.
Joomla is very easy to work with, and very extensible. Its extensions are a snap to install - as long as you have directory permissions set correctly (or in 1.5.x, you can use FTP instead) you never need touch your Joomla installation files - it's all handled in the administration page.
Joomla is also a very good example of good PHP programming, being one of the few systems to utilize PHP's Object-Oriented approach to its fullest extent. I'm a big fan of the plugins system - you can simply extend the Plugin class to perform various tasks, or you could always "extend" another class to override something that isn't supported by the plugin class. Anyway, in a nutshell, Joomla has really made me think about how I make PHP pages and my programming has greatly improved because of it.

Joomla- I have always thought of Wordpress as blogging software even since they added in some of the CMS. I have found Joomla to be to restrictive when adding PHP code to pages, so I am making my own CMS for a site I'm working on.
can i use it for sports blogs
I've just gone through the same decision and in the end went for Joomla because it offers so many more options and themes. It has a solid community (so does wordpress) as well. I used the training videos at lynda.com on Joomla, they are quite boring in parts, but take you through every step necessary. I swear if I hear that guy say and now back to the front end one more time!! Lol in one of the videos he says it the wrong way around.

That is by far the best way to go, now that you mention it.
Joomla is the best.
I know you have only two options open Joomla! and WordPress, but i would seriously recommend you with Drupal. yes, it seems tough, bulky and unyeilding, but belive me and google too http://www.google.com/search?q=i+love+drupal
If you use a template than Joomla is a lot better I think, but if you are trying to make your own Joomla is hell. I tried to make one, but now I've given up. So if you are satified with the enormous amount of templates for joomla or want to buy a professional programmed template than Joomla is a good choice. But because I'm a little disappointed with Joomla I'm going to try out Wordpress.
But here it says that Drupal is even better for creating your own customized design.
