Is there any indication that there will be a merger of the iPhone technology and global positioning systems technologies. I am visiting with my mom who has a GPS that we have been using and want to know whether it is likely to be a long time before the technology is onn an iPhone.

There are rumors that companies are developing a device that can be plugged into the bottom of an iPhone (and an iPod too I guess since they have the same connector). But nothing is confirmed as of yet.
With the latest iPhone firmware 1.1.3 the Google Maps application can determine your location to within a few blocks using the phone network.... That is as good as it gets for now

I am glad to see the iPhone and iPod touch ramped up their memory capacities, but I will want both at least 100GB and GPS before I purchase.
