The origin of AIDS virus

yagnyavalkya
I want to start a thread on the origin of AIDS virus
and various theories associated with it
Some starters are
1. African sexual habits ( involvement of animal)
2. use of monkey blood as booster for sexual powers
3. The most controversial of all is
the OPV or the oral polio vaccine derived origin of AIDS virus where it is alleged that American doctors unknowingly inoculated millions of Africans with OPV cultured in monkeys known to carry IADS
rshanthakumar
There have been lots of theories on the origin of Aids virus. But then most of them were laid to rest after that conference in London on the Aids origin in 2001.

The ones that were laid to rest are:
1. The myth of African Sexual habits. It has been established that it is far too infrequent that such thing could have never causes an epidemic of this sort. 'Puntuated event' as they call it could have never occured only during that period of observation 1950 to 1960 end.

2. Your second observation were myths spun by pharma companies of the US.
rshanthakumar
Continuation of my previous comment.. I had to break and come back... sorry!

3. The third one has always been considered the most appropriate cause of AIDS in the world. Though it has now been held that it was not the OPV that caused it since it was not the one that was distributed during the 'punctuated event' when the creation of the AIDS DNA did really take place. It was the Hepitatis B that did the trick. Secondly, OPV did not use Chimps which were supposed to be the carriers of a variation of the virus SIV. Whereas Chimps were used to produce Hepitatis B vaccine.

And therefore, AIDS is not a natural disease that has occured but a man made disease! A cure, the conference had suggested can be found if the reason why chimps never die of it is found. Chimps (95% of them) have this disease and still happily lead their life. It is the pharma companies job to find out what gives them this immunity. It is the job of the researchers to find it immediately.

Well my understanding is that AIDS has been traced to Chimps. There is no universal agreement on the mechanism of transfer but there seems to be fairly widespread agreement on the origin of the actual virus.

^In that case, perhaps the best route to a cure would be to find out why chimps don't die of it...
With chimps being so similar to humans, it might be possible to modify a human in such a way as to gain a chimp's invulnerability to AIDS.

I am not so sure about the hepatitis thing
I will get back with certain other fact about the OPV and chimps

It's probably a similar sort of body chemistry/immune system response issue that makes things like Nectria ditissima fungus more harmful to American beech than European beech, or Ophiostoma ulmi, O. novo-ulmi and O. himal-ulmi are more harmful to European and American elms than Asian elms... coevolution of the native hosts and the disease causing organism reduces the virulence of the pathogen... but when it transfers host species, the new host does not have the same immune responses as the original host, and the pathogen can become more virulent, reproducing at accelerated rates. (I'm sure I'm not informing you of anything here Razz )

Figuring out how chimp immunoresponse to SIV differs from our response to HIV is one thing (which I don't believe we've managed to do), but modifying humans to respond similarly to HIV is another thing altogether. We simply don't know enough about DNA to manipulate entire systems and actually know what the result might be; add on to that all the moral/ethical issues with human genetic engineering and we have a huge kettle of worms Smile

If they could find the cause of the AIDS then they would certainly be able to find the cure for it as well. I don't think that we will see it in our lifetime sadly but who knows with the world the way it is now. I would love to see it .

Its not easy to find out the exact origin of AIDS virus, in practice any virus, with our current knowledge of molecular biology. Theories are everywhere about the origin or any mysterious stuff like AIDS but in scientific point of view, the origin of one species can be traced only through extensive genetic studies. We are waiting for the decoding of viral genetic structure for an answer...

Unfortunately that does not follow. Knowing the cause (as in the common cold) does not mean that a cure will automatically follow. The HIV virus is fairly well understood but it's another matter to kill it without causing secondary damage to important systems...

there was something, read it not to long ago, kp1 something, its a cure for hiv being tested as we speak. they are in the second stage of testing it, and so far so good.

I thought it transmuted to humans from eating monkey brains.

And that it spread prolifically through Africa because of the lack of condoms and a preference for anal sex to prevent pregnancy.

Then a Canadian flight attendant brought it to North America.

I was watching a tv program where twin doctors from the UK were in a village where monkey are on the menu. I not sure what species of primate was, it may have been chimpazee. The doctors were worried about eating the meat because it's thought HIV was contracted in this way. It certainly makes sense, when you think of CJD which is contracted through eating infected cows.

Tis true. Viruses in general are VERY hard to treat, and most drugs/antibiotics are not actually used to treat the virus (wuth the misconception of the common cold) but treat the secondary infections caused by bacteria due to the weakening in the hosts immune system. The HIV virus is a very crafty organism because of its ability to be incorprated into the immune cells DNA, so its hard to get at it without harming the host cells. It also has a high mutation rate. If there was a ''cure'' for it how long would it actually work, untill the virus becomes ''resistant'' to the stuff?[/quote]

It is probably some mutated form of another virus, which when finding which, we might be able to "find a cure." Although, I do believe they already know the cure. They are merely prolonging the time it takes before your body shuts down and dies, so that it can become wide spread. I doubt such heinous people will introduce the cure to the public, given that they already make billions on drugs that "help" you by supressing its symptoms.

I don't suppose you have any evidence to support your claims? No, silly question I know, of course you haven't.

Why we just trying to find reasons from outsides...
rather than from insides of us...

I have heard that AIDS first came about when a man had intercourse with a green monkey.

First, ewwwwwwwwwwww.

And second, I have never seen or heard of a green monkey other than in this context, and I have been to many zoos.

Has anybody here ever seen a green monkey before?
Did it look sick as if it were infected with AIDS?

If we could find this green monkey maybe it would help to answer some more of our questions.

Say hi to your mom for me,

Uwe

I think it comes from the aliens, they are trying to wipe us of the face of the earth and take over

Um, I suspect someone was pulling your leg. Just a thought mind you. The likely origins are expressed above by various people if you wish to check.

And perhaps the monkey had merely fallen in a bucket of paint?

All have got to discuss about the origin of AIDS virus...By the time pray for the cure of the disease...!! However it originated or occured..there should be an end for the killing disease...!!! Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad
MunMun2o2o
As i know about AIDS virus is cause by sharing drugs, doing a lot of sexual things as you all say about the monkey things.I also heard that AIDS cannot be cured afterall. So sad for those who get AIDS. Crying or Very sad
