While generally browsing the net today, I came across an article in a respectable newspaper:

It talks about a huge collection of garbage in the Pacific Ocean. Since the plastics used nowadays don't bio-degrade, it poses a grave threat to the eco-system apparently.
Various organizations such as GreenPeace have tried to bring awareness about these sort of environmental issues. What is your opinion? Is this scare something like the global warming scare, on a smaller geographical scale? It would be nice to have people's viewpoints here.
