Hi every1 I was just wondering what forums/board systems every1 likes, from an admin piont of view and also user piont of view. What features makes you like this board system then others? Is it a nice easy login in or quick sign up, etc ?
Kind Regards

IMHO, PHPbb.
Free, easy and has lots of mods.
http://www.phpbb.com/
Fore me PHPBB
I get used a lot on using it the functions and there are a lot of tools on this Forum or Mods that will be very useful and most of all its free and editable..
Thanks for your replys guys, so we have 2 votes for PHPBB , so is the ablity to make mod's for the board a major factor in your choice? Also if you dont mind me asking are either of ya's admins of boards running PHPBB?
if u want free then go for phpBB and the version 3 is really good
if u have the money (which i dont think so bcos u r on a free host) then no doubt it has to be vBulletin

ha ha lol
, No I anit actually looking for one to use, I have used some in the passed, I am currently building my own system and I want to see what the major deisiding factors are in which one you chose. What features and functions are the most important.
Frankly as an end user most of the boards feel the same, vB and IPB have a much better search than phpBB and probably thats what i want, an excellent search feature.
And as far as the admin section goes I shut my forum down about a year ago for lack of time, and so am way off here, but the only thing I would have loved with my phpBB board was an easier update system.
Thanks very much for the feedback, very helpful.
Basically as a poster all I want is to get the topic I like and reply immediately in the quickest possible manner. Also as a user I would like the bells and whistles of a nice sig editor and also a place to add more of my personal details Also some AJAX would be cool
As far as admin is concerned, my biggest headache was controlling the spam, and you could implement the robot.txt and avoid them from catching all the user links, and also maybe link SEO.

Yes the application I am building uses alot of ajax and mootool framework for easy , fast posting. Its only in the begining stages of development, but the core functions are completed. Once again thanks for the feedback.

I haven't used Forum Software much, but presently I'm taking a look at phpbb. The website, easy to guess, is http://www.phpbb.com
If I had the money, I would try out IPB (Invision Power Boards).
Goodluck with the new Project..

Flatforum is my favorite. It's simple, has anti-spam controls, no login system for regular users so it's open, and it works like a charm. SubForum is a spinoff project with more features, but I haven't seen anything with it.
My favorites go in this order:
1. Invision Power
2. SMF
3. PhpBB 2
4. VBulliten
5. PhpBB 3
Yeah, Invision power rocks.
Thanks for the feedback and support guys
VBulliten is the best if you are willing to pay But if you want a free one then SMF is my choice. Only draw back for SMF is the most of the free themes out there are not alive. But things changing now since better themes are coming out.
thanks for the feedback. Any1 else got an opinion on the subject? what features make you side with wat board system? what features would you like to see added to board/forum systems in the furture??
i think phpbb is d best.. d ui is simple n no unnecessary stuff.. very easy to customize....
Thanks for your input.phpBB seem to be the most popular. So what I am getting from people is the main desiding factor is ease of use and simply. Any1 else?

For what it gave in version 2 it could have had twice the features and security in half the megabytes of source. Its template system makes me want to rip my head off...well at least with the default table based mess they gave it.
AEF heres the link http://www.anelectron.com or for the forum http://www.anelectron.com/board
thats the best imo
I'm also for phpBB3. Very easy, lots of features, easy install, easy moderation, easy administration, good-looking and not difficult to customise.
Well I think that covers it
Also It's not really hard to make mods and so far the mods I made didn't get broken when changing version. (when upgrading from the RC's etc)
So I recommend phpBB
my favorite is woltlab burning board 3. nice ajax implementations... its 4 me the best...
Although almost everyone is voting phpbb, i vote for SMF.
Here's why i think SMF triumphs over phpbb:
-SMF has an easy admin control panel, with most things laid out logically. Whereas, i find phpbb's control panel quite confusing.
-SMF is very secure. One thing phpbb used to be well known for was its constant security holes. Phpbb would thus need to be reupdated regulary.
-SMF is by far the easiest forum software to update. You simply need to click "update" in the control panel which runs the update script, whereas last time i checked phpbb requires you to download, replace certain files, then run the update script.
Search phpbb and smf in google, and you'll see them compared.
Peace.
Had anyone tried SMF 2 ? I'm waiting till it comes out of beta. I hope it would be better than the current version. more great templates and stuff.
SMF is now in public beta. You can download it and test it. The next release is going to be final proper version i think. I can't wait!
Peace.
I like phpBB3, but there are not much hacks and mods for phpBB3 and phpBB2 well. And PHPFusion i good enough for a simple forum =) .
I like PHPBB The most, But Yabb is very interesting and has alot of things you can do
So yabb is kewl!
I like phpbb. It's are simple and easy to use. It's free and doesn't cost money. I don't know if I like phpbb2 or phpbb3 best.

Isn't Yabb really old now though?
SMF 2.0 is the latest release and it rocks!
phpBB3 and 2
SMF.
vBulletin.
Those are the most decent ones I used.
I always have preferred SMF. Only problem with it used to be the lack of nice themes. But now there are nice alive themes so it it rocks. But one thing which me bothers is that lack of good SEO mods for SMF. I'm not sure how SEO friendly is SMF script.
i like phpbb3 and a nelectron forum -aef (1.0.6)
like like aef so much and it was the first board i installed
this is blank aef forum - forum.mahirh.com
I use phpbb3 only because I took time and learn how there software works. I already created 2 modifications for and working on others
. Also phpbb2 is the only one that satisfied me to begin with. Only because 1) it's free (open source) 2) you can use it on Frihosting ( a big ++) and because support is given nicely at phpbb.com.
I have use others like SMF, Yabb, PHPnuke but they never satisfied me like phpbb I always had to reinstall it because a mod went wrong or created a unknown error or something just wouldn't work.
Don't get me wrong, I think everyone should try each software to see if it fits them. Just because I didn't work with me doesn't mean you wont find a like in one of them.
Id Honestly Prefer vBulletin.
Very Clean, Easy Installation, Great For Communitys.
The Price Isnt All That Bad For 1 Year Of Upgrades And Etc..

If it costs money, then if i remember correctly, you're not allowed to have vbulletin on frihost (unless you can prove it's yours).
Peace.
I probably have to go with phpbb2. I've tried some other stuff, but I keep coming back to this one.
