Hi, I have read some books about DNA sequencing and protein structure prediction recently. I have figured out that there are abundant of databases on the Internet where we can actually use it on free.
To search for a profile or anything about your interested gene or protein, NCBI is the best site you should look for.
For pair-wise sequence alignment, BLAST is the best and it can be accessed by many of the websites out there.
For multiple sequence alignment, there are ClustalW and Tcoffee.
After doing multiple sequence alignment, we can do the protein structure prediction and even figure out the phylogenetic tree of the sequences that we are comparing...
It is very exciting to have so many free tools on DNA sequencing and Protein structure prediction. I guess. But I am really don`t know how frequent it is a scientist will use all of the services I mention above. Is it very popular to use web application and databases to do research on DNA sequencing?
