Dual core or 64 bit?

nunosilva
I guys. for you who understand about the latest CPU's I'd like to get an advise from you... I'm running a very old pentium 3 1Ghz (which still does good the job under linux). And now I'm thinking of upgrading the old bastard...
But I'm divided on buying and amd 64 bit processor or a dual cored processor... well I believe that the dual core would give more performance than 64 bit processor, but how would it be diferent if I had the 64 bit one?
Which would you buy?

64Bit + dual core

Dude i dont track Intel. So no advice on it from me

AMD produces on 64 bit dual Core processors. The best u can get.

go to tom harware, anand tech

There are a lot of articles to tell u that AMD is superior and which one u should go in for

hey... all dual core processors that are available from amd and intel are 64bit!
as the man said go to tomshardware guide or anandtech

don't buy intel dual core... they are a stopgap before the next generation... intel has admitted so itself... unfortunately AMD duallies are rather expensive right now...

Wait about six months... and AMD and intel will have bypassed this "stopgap" generation of chips... (i know its a long time... <>)

EDIT: nvmd according to ur sig... u've already chosen Rolling Eyes lol srr i didnt notice

I would rather buy AMD 64-bit than AMD 64-bit with dual core or Pentium D. The dual core processors are rather unaffordable...

i will go for AMD

cheap and better than that dual core of Intel

Give a look at the new Athlon 64 X2 3800+. It's both fast and cheap.
