Just because someone is a Satanist, doesn't mean that they "worship" Satan. Many Satanists do NOT believe in a God. The concept of Satanism is that man created God, rather than God creating man so in reality MAN IS GOD! The Satanic Bible by Anton Szandor LaVey only costs about $10 to buy, and is very interesting to read. I, myself, believe that spending my time worshipping myself is far more important that worshiping a possibly-existent God. I encourage anyone to read more about the true Satanism. Hello my name is Todd and I am a former Satanist. I became a member of the Church of Satan in Sanfransisco CA back in the 1990s. I was propted to become a Satanist after reading the Satanic bible, and discovering the philosophy to be more like humanism. It just made sense. At the time is was disenchanted with and lothed Christianity so I more than excepted it, but later I came to the conclusion that it is a BIG waste of time to hate and lothe any religion. We should be more concerned for our own health and success, then tied up with hating. It is for this reasion the Church of Satan is not so populer today.
In any Christian church, they will preach to you about how Satanists worship Satan and are horrible people. They are wrong. Satanists are basically abvocates to the church. Many of them basically have the idea that they can do whatever they want and aren't going to live their lives by some rules set by a religion.
For all those years I though that satanism was all about worshiping Satan and demons, making bloody sacrificies and stuff like that... From what You are saying it turns out to be something completely different. In a matter of fact, the whole philosophy of not living according to Church rules and worshipping yourself is kind of appealing to me.
But even though I don't like the way Christian religion wants to rule over the world and everyone on it, I still believe in God himself, so I could never force myself to change my ways onto Satanism (the name of it is kind of evil anyway)

The only thing I disliked about Satanism is its attempt to convert humanism to a religion when societical laws are enough to realize humanism
also, it is both foolish and arrogant to name one's organization to something "cool" or "rebellious" because it misdirect the group's purpose as to whether uplift lives or scare people. It's childish if you ask me.

"Satanism" is these days an umbrella term for a lot of things, and Lavey-ism is one branch on that tree. Some "satanists" do actually worship a god of some kind, others do not. The most common version is the later, aka "LaVeyism"

Well I understand it is humanism, but humanism isn't a religion. Satanism both has ritual and dogma, and fantasy which are all necessary keys to a religion. Satanists can basically believe in whichever god they adopt, however satanists recognize such as fantasy. Which is one of the only religions that recognizes everything by there true colors - fantasy or non fantasy, etc. It's called Satanism, because it's basically the anti-christianity. without christianity satansim would not exist, and we openly admit that. And just because something is "anti" doesn't mean it's a bad thing, just means it's the opposite. besides, not everyone can be a satanist, not everyone can be a christian, just depends on what you believe.
I've actually been called satanist by joke because of my very anti-religious thoughts but it was all just a joke. Recently, we made a school project about religion and I chose a topic involving satanism. I was rather surprised to unfold the actual belief and that I do with agree a lot with it (for example that there is no god). Not the way that I am adopting the idéas but rather that they're idéas which are all part of my previous beliefs (or non-beliefs).
I havn't really got what all this talk about magic is. What is it really? From the point I see it, it doesn't seem supernatural, rather physiological. Calling it magic just makes it seem silly and untrustworthy.

Exploration, basically. People have to find ways to express their philosophy and their sense of place in the world, and if Satan makes a fitting symbol for them...
a mistake often made is when people considder luciferians to be satanists...
luciferians believe in lucifer, god's right hand, who fell from heaven because he tried to enlighten humans. ( = explains to the christians why ppl have different believes)
The church made him the enemy ( chaitan :arab or hebrew for enemy )
Lucifer did it all just so that people would believe in him aswell...
So lucifer is just the greek/roman titan Prometheus, who gave the ppl on this earth fire. And because of that fire we could evolve and become what we are now.
On the other hand, Satan is Evil in person, satan is a way for the church to make people who are simple fear their power... In the middle ages the image of Satan was created. To make the poor peasents fear the church so they wouldn't revolt when they had to pay even higher taxes.
My question is, why would u believe in EVIL, made by the church itself... Lucifer basicly allowed us to think freely... But in most stories of Satan he is a tiran, who lets his slaves work 24/7...

From what I've gathered, this is not the case. Satanism worships indulgence, not abstinence. Basically, you worship yourself as 'God.' Satanism is a misnomer given by Christians that just kind of stuck. I think the term "Satanist" was used to describe a very broad group of people back in the times of the Salem Witch Trials and such.
But I think someone mentioned worshiping Lucifer, or the Christian devil as a religion, which would be different. Luciferian?

Ha! It's a bit hard to take them seriously when the front page on their site looks like a 'goffick' furry convention.
If people want to live for themselves and by their own rules then joining a cult seems somewhat counter-intuitive. It seems to be nothing more than something that defines itself solely through that which it opposes (the Church). That is a weak and dependant stance and not one befitting of those that claim to be self-serving. It's rebellion as opposed to the independence it preaches. And rebellion requires the existence of that which it rebels against.
Add to that the fact that the existence of such a cult only gives a sense of validation to the Church it opposes and offers itself as a face of The Enemy for the the Church to rally against. It reinforces their faith and makes them stronger in it.
So to recap: not only is it counter productive in regard to its self serving philosophies, but also in its opposition to the Church. It would achieve its claimed goals far better by simply not existing at all.
