Prophet Abraham was ordered by GOD to sacrifice his son Ismael in the name of GOD. Abraham carried out the order but the knife failed to cut through the throat of Ismael until Ismael was replaced by a sheep. GOD accepted the faith and true obediance of Abraham. Prophet Muhammad received this order from GOD to sacrifice animals on the same calender day to remember this virtue of Abraham. This is the reason of celebration of Eid-ul-Adha.

That's disgusting. Exclamation
I would rather cut the throat of this "god" instead. Laughing
I refuse to follow any religion that would have me sacrifice animals or any child I may have in the future. In the name of God? That's just pointless.

And let the silliness begin...

The point about the sacrifice of the kid was not that God wanted the kid sacrificed, but that he needed to see how far Abraham was willing to go in his trust of God. Abraham had to have faith that God was not interested in seeing the kid killed, but was more interested in teaching Abraham a lesson, especially with all of the screw-ups Abraham had done prior to that moment in time...

In other words: Abraham was being an arrogant jerk and creating problems for the tribe, and needed to be taught a lesson in humility. Something worth remembering...
