Installing Car Alarms

Has anyone here installed car alarms before? And if so how truly hard are they to install? I was offered some money to install a car alarm for one of my friends and i looked at the diagram for it and it doesnt seem that hard. But then again i have seen and done a lot of things that didnt seem that hard at first glance and it was a pain in the ass when it came down to it. I was just curious to if theres hidden stuff i should know about before attempting this like problems i might run into or something of that nature before i jump into a job that takes way longer then needed. If anyone has any info or insight into this i would greatly appreciate it thanks for your help!

No its quite straightforward... Hardest is splicing into ignition, and placing the brain in a good location. Running wires is a pain, but thats about it. Motion sensor placement, make sure somewhere secure, such as steering column... Horn, pointing to street is apparently loudest. Motion sensor, centre of car. You can also find install guides online. If you have ever installed an audio system in a car, its about same level of difficulty.

Alright great, shouldnt be that hard at all then Smile as long as its truely about the same as installing an audio system which is actually quite easy at least i thought. Thanks for your help i appreciate it!!

The process is the same, essentially soldering wires etc... difference is you have to know which wires you need (ignition), if you have every hardwired a deck that will come in handy...

Alright great, well see i also failed to mention in my previous post that i have done a car alarm before but it was just a basic alarm and auto door locks. The one that im supposed to be installing is alarm with pager, automatic door locks, automatic trunk pop, remote start, as well as the new satellite linkup (which i just now found out about the satellite linkup) i looked at the diagram for the car and it doesn't seem all that hard its a 2007 Chevy Impala. Im just still a little iffy on splicing into a newer cars wiring harness it looks quite different from the car i have done before.

well if its a new alarm, the company will actually have wiring diagrams on their side, in case you run into trouble. Each car maker uses different wiring colours... Give your buddy the disclaimer that nothing is your fault, and go ahead hehe...

Newer car looks different as there are much more wires. Give alarm company a call confirm the colours of wires you know already... Like bimmer's decks, some accessory wires need to be spliced with an aux. wire in order for interior lights to work etc...

Good luck!

I've done about five alarms and heaps of stereos, the first alarm had a pager and that isn't any problem. The hardest was a Clifford because it had no installation instructions or diagrams as I bought it in the U.S. and they only sell to authorised installers who have a set of installation notes, anyway it worked out fine but I had to make one call to the guy in L.A. where I bought it to do with the hijack setup.

If you can install a stereo and have done simple alarms before it isn't hard.

It is not difficult but not so easy... You have basic knowledge of electricity and ability to read diagrams also you need wiring diagrams for your car... It is all about older cars.. Modern cars have digital bus and installation of alarm systems much easier! But i think it is better to trust this work to professionals...
