Where's My Oil Filter???

Jaspa
I have a Vreg(2000) Hyundai Accent 1.3Si. Ok, so it's nothing special, but at least it's bought and paid for Smile

Anyway... while traveling home one day I noticed a slight taping noise coming from the cam... ahh, I thought, time for a oil change. After getting home and grabing a beer from the fridge, I opened the bonnet to make a note of the type of oil filter I would need. I looked everywhere, the front, the back and either end of the engine, then I crawled underneath but for the life of me I can't see it Confused

So if anyone knows, please tell me... where's my oil filter?

Did you look in the owners manual?
You may have a cartridge filter instead of the regular can type.

RTFM

Or if you really can't read, go to your gas station and ask your question to the first person you see. (-> also funny effect)

You could also consider getting a haynes shop manual for your car. They cost about $20, but they give precise instructions on how to do anything on your car: from changing the oil to rebuilding the transmission.

Ocalhoun's got a good idea, but if I was going to buy a manual I'd go ahead and spring for a full shop manual ($60-100). It's worth the extra price any day of the week for all but the most casual DIYers. Hayne's and Chilton's manuals are cheap and they serve a limited function, but FULL of errors, omissions, and photos of the wrong car.

^They should be more than adequate for finding an oil filter, though.

For sure. Basic things like checking oil, doing oil filters, changing fluids: thumbs up.

Check out this ebay auction for a shop manual.

I'd snap that up fast, if I were you. A good shop manual is the most versatile and powerful tool you'll ever use.

Thanks for that jwellsy, the thing is... I'm in the UK Shocked

Thanks for all the advice but I think my best bet would be to put the car in for a full service when the MOT is due in Jan... 'kill 2 birds with 1 stone' as they say. Wink

^See if they'll let you watch while they work. Then you can do it yourself next time.
A small mom-and-pop shop would be more likely to let you do this than a large, busy shop.
