Just out of curiosity,

Theoretically, what is the maximum size of a MYSQL database?

What's the largest MySQL database you have ever worked with?

Theoretically it is unlimited.

The famous Internet news site Slashdot.org runs on InnoDB. Mytrix, Inc. stores over 1TB of data in InnoDB, and another site handles an average load of 800 inserts/updates per second in InnoDB.

Thanks,

WHy do you use innoDB? Is it better than the default?
MrBlueSky
No particular reason. I created the db on a windows machine, and the windows installer sets the default to InnoDB instead of MyISAM. InnoDB is optimized for large databases and tables, but I have no idea whether a database of a few GB is considered large. The main drawbacks of InnoDB is that it doesn't support FULLTEXT indexes and getting the row count is very, very slow, which is a problem for a lot of webapplications. You can get a fast estimate of the rowcount using "ANALYZE TABLE", but this number can be 10% below or above the actual number of rows (at least with my dbase).

BTW, the maximum size of a table for InnoDB is 64 Terabyte. But when you need larger tables ( Smile ), the BerkeleyDB engine has no upper limits on the table size Very Happy
