Almost anything is possible with Joomla. There are thousands of different extensions (modules and components) which can be found at the official website - http://extensions.joomla.org/. In your case, you might like to check out the "Content & News section". Hope you like Joomla. Very Happy

Can you elaborate on what you want to build. Like MySpace do you mean like a blog? Or a place where you can post your photos? Or where you can put your personal information? You can bundle what you want with extensions.

Okay since i very new to the joomla i found some components i want well the features i want is
where the visitor will register and then after they register they will have their own page like let say they have own blogs each one of them,

other things i want is the FORUM, photo gallery. media box...

I don't know if it is possible if they have a profile page just like on friendster or myspace have.

There are a lot of extensions, but if you are the way I was a few years back with trying to set up a site like Myspace, try getting a Myspace clone or another script called PHPFox. These are paid scripts though.

I am in the midst of customizing a joomla site with some nifty features, perhaps I will post up a demo when ever I get around to completing it. Maybe it'll have something you're looking for, then I can assit you further.

Myspace is somewhat like a social network, i'd suggest searching for scripts that are more towards that category.

Another good script you could try using, that's free is Dolphin, software developed by Boonex. I tried that out once and was very pleased with it.

Hi iamarun, I am learing joomla and didnt found the perfect tutorial. It depends on what you want to learn to do. For example, If you only want to learn to add content to an existing template and to install new modules or components, it is not so dificult. you have to learn about how to organise the content and modify it in joomla.

On the other side you would want to learn how to create a template. That is more interesting and not so difficult too if you already know something about html and css. You will discover part of the huge potential of this CMS.

Almost finally, you could learn on how to create new extensions to joomla (components, modules or mambots). That requires good knowledge of php and mysql database management to take all the advantages of programming extensions.

Finally, you could be interested on developing the joomla core. That is not so easy and for me not so interesting as creating new extensions.

Cheers.

Hi guys,

I'm also relatively new to web hosting and Joomla myself. I've tried 741.com as a free web-host however I didn't manage to get Joomla installed on that server. I'm guessing from this thread that people have been able to install Joomla on the FRIHOST server which is great.

I'm currently using an old Joomla Template from version 1.0.x in Joomla 1.5.x in legacy mode. Does anyone know if this causes any major issue?

Is Joomla fully supported in with this free web hosting?

I have been looking around for a long time trying to find a great free web hosting service for my Joomla web site. I came across this one and it looks very good.

I have tried others but they where unreliable and came up with different errors all the time. I am hoping a lot that this web hosting will be easy to use and reliable.

Has anyone got any experiences they want to share with Joomla - has it worked for you here? Can I see your site?

Community Builder.
This is the best joomla component to create a social network, i've used it before and it's really good and highly configurable and it even got lots of plugins.
here's the link:

At first when i found about joomla i also found about drupal. I have now over 15 website based on joomla but zero on drupal. I simply didn't liked drupal. Joomla is universe. Everything is possible here. You can expect to make anything you want. But since i don't know much about drupal i also respect them for their rapid development. I can't under-estimate drupal since it has also very large user community with thousands of addons.
It might become little difficult with joomla at the beginning. But believe me, if you follow the instruction of the book and spend some time, i am sure you will be on the way in no time.
No thing is every perfect but joomla is the best you can get for free. It would have cost not less than $500 if it was not for free.
I really appreciate the work of those joomla geeks.
