Mushraff - Scheduled to step down !!!

indianinworld
Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has finally decided to step down from his position and leave his uniform today, after a nine-year reign as Army Chief. It is to be noted that he (Pervez Musharraf) came to power in a coup during 1999 by removing the post and powers of the then Prime Minister - Nawaz Sharif. Pervez Mushrraf's close and trusted, ISI chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani, will be sworn in as a civilian President on Thursday.

Later - in a separate Interview, Sharif said, "The circumstances at the moment are not conducive for free and fair elections. The ground realities have to change before we hold polls.” Former Minister - Benazir Bhutto (Pakistan People's Party leader) is also looking some kind of cooperation with Nawaz Sharif.

Please correct me if I am wrong. My understanding is that Musharraf will remain President of Pakistan, but is resigning from the military, and turning the post of Army Chief over to his friend Kiyani.

Pakistan continues to be destabilized by terrorism and conflicts among different groups in the country and in the region. Some feel he is holding on to power through his friends. I hope he will have the chance to demonstrate his desire for free and fair elections, and that he and his military friends will choose to relinquish power gracefully.if the people vote for someone else.

I really doubt his sincerity. The chances of him stepping down in my opinion are very slim.
Bru, stuffce
Yes, it looks very much as though this is one for the international press. So he retains the presidency and control of the army through his buddy, who think sthat "Now is not the time for elections'. It stinks like a 3-day old trout.
Indyan
I aint believing it till he actually does it. He has a bad track record as far as keeping promises is concerned.
