You might want to post this in the computer forum.
emachines reliability keeps improving. 4 years is good. Biggest problem I have found is ventilation/cooling but keeping clean inside helps alot.
Which reminds me, time to clean mine and maybe get that second fan added.

Heat and dust are probably the 2 biggest problems for computers. As far as how long do they last? Well how long does any electronics component last? That's rather like asking how long do people live.

Some much longer than others. Take hard drives for instance. I've had hard drives fail in 6 months. On the other hand, my boot drive is a 40G Western Digital that has been purring away for about 6 years now and still works perfectly.

Keep your pc cool and clean and it should last for quite some time.

exactly what he said, its a matter of how good the parts that are in it are, and how well you take care of it how much you use it, do you overclock etc...
i had the same computer for like 10 years now (i also have newer ones) but it still runs and it's good enough if im only using as an access point for the internet.

It's impossible to tell how long a computer will last, it could fall off a table tomorrow and be gone

As mentioned in the previous posts give the internals a good clean every now and then it really helps to prevent filters and fans from clogging up. I recall one machine which i was asked to have a look at was so full of dust you could only just make out the components! the PSU had died completely, and the CPU fan had jammed i was amazed the CPU hadn't burnt out! A simple clean out can save you a fortune!

it all depends on the way u use your computer, if u use it diligently and take care of it regularly then it shoudl last a long time
